Ten Years of Wild Irene

For those who are reading this, Irene has invited many of us to celebrate her tenth blogiversary by writing to her OLW, wild. Find Irene at her blog Live Your Poem with all the others in this round-up. She shares her own celebration there, too.

Dear Irene, I haven't known you for ten years, but in the years I have read your posts, loved your writing, the books and poetry. I do know that you take wildness seriously, write broadly of numerous topics, and don't stop finding new ideas to share your love of words. What a wonderful, wild ten years to celebrate! Here is my celebration of you, for you.

I know that you've answered Mary Oliver's well-known lines beautifully!

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

The Evidence!
And here is something I 'wildly' wrote, thanks to Daniel Kelley's Home On The Range, a wild song for you!

For Irene

Oh give me a home where the wildebeest roam,
Where the giraffe and the elephant play,
Where wildness appears, Irene writes without fears,
And the meercats stand watch all the day.

Chorus-
Home, home with Irene,
Where poetry reigns on her stage,
Where lost rooms are found, and colors abound,
Where words fly like clouds off the page.

When wild skies perform, she delights in the storm,
Loves clouds that are drifting above,
Her sky poems’ song make everyone long
For the sights in the words that she loves.

How often at night to quilters’ delight,
Irene penned a wild story that’s true,
Ludephia’s deed, fulfilling a need
Made all of us celebrate, too.

How wild and how shrewd, Irene’s seldom subdued
When she finds a new way to explore.
I am often amazed at the wild of her ways
And left, when I read, wanting more!

Congratulations on your ten wild years, Irene! Best wishes for many more!

  10. What a tribute. "Wild Irene" sounds like that should be a kind of flower (a wild one, of course). And your second poem has so many fun insider references but also stands alone. Fabulous, Linda!
