There is nothing better than a birthday party. Unfortunately it was supposed to be at the park near my house, and it turned out to be cold and windy. We crammed inside and had a great time anyway. Kids picnicked on a quilt in the living area, adults moved through the rest of the rooms. We did bundle up for a piñata outside!

It was a pleasure stepping into a youngest primary classroom for a morning, working with four young students who were writing stories about their trips taken to learn about their unit topics. One boy, studying trucks, told me so many facts about big trucks, and then wrote them down. This is not my favorite age to teach all the time (too much middle school in me), but I celebrate the excitement these students had in telling about their adventures.
My obligation in the one classroom is lessened, so I was able to be home a bit more this week. It was nice to be able to do some things around home that were needed without doing them late in the day. And Wednesday, I celebrated 61 days of posting, all of March and April. Whew! I'm proud that I did it, but it was great to take Thursday off!
Finally, a lucky thing. I check my credit card several times a week, and this time, I found an entry that meant someone else was using the number. I feel so fortunate that I caught it, have made arrangements to protect the card while a new one is issued. Don't forget to check!
It was so windy all week, and today was calm and lovely, supposed to be near 80 tomorrow. Could this be real? Hope I can celebrate that in the coming days! Here's a quote that helps: "Weather is a great metaphor for life--sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and there's nothing much you can do about it but carry an umbrella." Terri Guillemets
I have been away for awhile and I have lots of catching up on your blog - 61 straight days! I love the birthday party even if it was Plan B! Your granddaughters are so cute! This week is a little slower paced so I hope to get back here soon. Have a great weekend, Linda!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is good, too. And glad to hear the week will slow down! Thanks, Leigh Anne!
DeleteThose girls could not be any cuter. Imi has a wide-eyed, ready-to-take-in-the-world look of pure curiosity about her. I bet your house was brimming with joy that day. The book group sounds like a wonderful way to spend time. And good catch on your credit card. That always makes me nervous.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christy. The party turned out to be much fun, despite the nutty weather. And I do check often, but don't know why I thought this particular time that I should. Glad I did! Makes me nervous, too!
DeleteThis spring has made Plan B and Plan C necessary! Looks like everyone had fun :)
ReplyDeleteI bought The Graveyard Book this week to read this summer based on your recommendation! Can't wait for summer to be here :)
Hope you enjoy the book, Michele! Yes, I have a long list of TBRs for the summer, too. Have a good weekend!
DeleteTwo precious princesses in the house! When dealing with Mother Nature, it is always good to have a back up plan. No matter the age, watching and assisting learning is a joyful celebration. Glad you were able to catch the credit card issue, that always unsettles you to discover that. Have a lovely weekend, they say it is going to be hot here.
ReplyDeleteYes, always checking the card, Elsie-Yikes! Supposed to be 80 plus here-windows open!
DeleteOh these girls. I remember those birthday parties when it is all about cake and dressing up and inside, outside - none of it matters. Very cute! So pleased to hear that your credit card is now safe. So unsettling when these things happen but good for you for catching it. It sounds like your time in the primary class was lots of fun and just long enough! It is a different energy than middle school - that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteOne of the party guests came up to me when she arrived and asked, "May I see the cake, please!" Yes, it's all about the cake and dressing up-lots of tutus this day! And yes, so happy I caught the credit problem! Primary was good, & I liked seeing what they were up to, but as I said, not for me full-time. Thanks, Carrie!
DeleteLovely little girls! Nothing like a happy birthday party at that age! Congratulations on the 61 days of posting. Posting every day in April was a bit stressful, but I'm always happy I stuck with it. Great discipline. So glad you checked your credit card. That's something I need to watch for, too.
ReplyDeletePosting that long was indeed always "what will I do tomorrow?" instead of just enjoying most of it. I love the writing, & still do it every day, but readying for posting is different. Thanks, Freeda!
DeleteYour grand girls are so cute! Picnicking on a quilt - so fun. We may have a poetry picnic with our personal anthologies this week. We'll have food, probably popcorn and pretzels, perfect foods for a poetry picnic. We broke records with an 85 degree day on Thursday. Kudos for your sustained posting for 61 days! I must get to The Graveyard Book soon. It's on the Kindle, so maybe for travel this summer. I have a student who insists I must read it soon and now you too!
ReplyDeleteYour picnic sounds great, Ramona. Hope it's lots of fun celebrating those anthologies!
DeleteI love birthdays! So glad there was a plan B for the party! 61 days is impressive indeed! I hope there is much more goodness in your life to come! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Earl. Same wishes for you!
DeleteWow, 61 days! I almost made it, missed only 2 days in April. I love writing but I also love reading. I think I will focus more on reading in May.
ReplyDeletePrecious moments with your grandchildren and book group. Happy May!
I understand, it's time to back off a bit, and enjoy some good books, and the end of the year-special weeks ahead!
DeleteYikes - so glad you caught the credit card discrepancy! And 61 days of posting is amazing. Sweet pics of the birthday party! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly-yes-so grateful that some little something made me check the card. Weird how that happens sometimes.
DeleteSuch pretty pink princesses! Wonderful. We had credit card trouble too. Took six weeks to clear up! Credit cards make life easier -- but sometimes eek! Glad you caught it.
ReplyDeleteAnd happy you got yours straightened out, too! Thanks, Julieanne.
DeleteYour indoor birthday party sounds perfect! I am also very impressed with 61 straight days of blogging. Wow!! And then to find the problem on your credit card. It pays to be vigilant, doesn't it? Have a great week next week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie, for all! Yes, am very glad I caught the credit issue. Now to notify everyone of the new number!
DeleteCongrats on 61 days of posting. I missed some days in April. Whether indoors or outdoors, everyone looked like they had fun at the party.
ReplyDeleteYes, the party was fun with both the kids and the parents, Jone. Thanks!
Delete61 days of writing - an amazing achievement. Both March and April have been rich and busy. I can imagine May following in the same manner, just with more warmth and sunshine. I am glad I had time to visit you today to read your celebrations. The birthday pics made me smile.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terje, have missed you lately. Hope you are celebrating lots of things, too! Those 61 days certainly filled the rest of the time, too.
DeleteSo wonderful that you were able to post so many days in a row. :) The birthday party looks like it was a complete success in spite of the weather. I am sure the girls will remember it fondly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Crystal. It was a fun party, inside or outside!
