It's April. It's Poetry Month!
Remember to check out the list of what everyone is doing at Jama Rattigan's blog: Jama's Alphabet Soup.
And check on the Water Poem Project where every day, a poet is sharing a prompt connected to water, hosted and created by Laura Shovan!
Plus! Check each day for the added line to the Progressive Poem, created by Irene Latham, now hosted by Margaret Simon! Link is above!
TIME TO CELEBRATE POETRY!
This first Poetry Friday of April is hosted by Heidi Mordhorst who is "sheltering in poetry" and has invited us in, at My Juicy Little Universe! Thanks, Heidi!
A leap with the theme of CIRCLES for poetry month, poems & small sketches. I am looking forward to reading everyone's posts. I'm sure I will love each one, knowing they're done during a time we've not lived before. Best wishes for continuing good health to you all!
April 1 - haiku
April 2 - cinquain
Here's number three - a couplet
Frost offered sage advice, (in a poem years ago.)
“Good fences make good neighbors.” (How did he know?)
I'm doing some catching up - I love what you are dooing with the circles of wood and with your art. Lovely combination! Are you gluing these in the notebook or sketching around them? and also, what size are they. The would make wonderful coasters if they were big enough!
ReplyDeleteI sketch it out, make sure the circles can work as imagined. They're very small, Leigh Anne, most less than an inch in diameter. Thanks.
DeleteI love that you are sampling several poetic forms as you 'circle' the month of poetry, Linda. Your 3D pictures with the wood circles make me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bridget, it will be fun to take the challenge & will become a diary of sorts during this strange time.
DeleteJust wonderful!! I am LOVING this project Linda. So clever what you're doing with the wooden circles (cutest fence I ever did see). :)
ReplyDeleteHow creative! What a wonderful response to Poetry Month. Your couplet makes me giggle. Robert Frost's wisdom is so defendable, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love your poem sketches with the circles! Today's couplet takes an old poem and brings it right into the mess we're in today.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama, Linda & Kay. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I certainly have the time to go wandering for surprises!
ReplyDeleteSuch a creative idea! Love your art and your verse.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rose, a diversion it is going to be!
DeleteI have enjoyed catching up with your April poems. Even if I'm not participating this year, I've added my name to your email list so I don't miss out on any of them. I love these circles!
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely to hear, Cheriee. Thank you. I am expecting to carry on, as said before, a good thing to take my mind away from the news.
DeleteI look forward to seeing what you create each day. Love your asides in parenthesis.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margaret, an aside this time in whispers!
DeletePerfect poem for today! Thanks for sharing it and your creative art work! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome! Thanks for coming by!
DeleteYour poem is so clever, Linda. It is perfect for what we are all experiencing today! Stay well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda, wishes back to you, too!
DeleteI love your tightly crafted challenge, Linda. Ticking so many boxes - and hitting creativity on many levels. This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Kat. I thought it would be a little quicker, but I am certainly having fun with it. Sketching to include those circles is a bit tricky.
DeleteI like the simplicity of your poem, the reference to Frost, and friendship connections. Your sketch reminds me of conversations I have had these past two weeks. Once a week, we seem to meet outdoors while his children are riding their little bikes. With the proper social distancing we ask how each other's family is doing. His wife is a OB-GYN nurse in NYC so she travels back and forth 4 days a week. She has to leave her newborn and 2 others at home with Daddy who is on paternity leave. Carlos gave me a glimpse of what nurse life is like during the quarantine. Stay safe, Linda.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your news, Carol. I know there are stories about those still taking care of people everywhere. I have two different friends who've had to have hospital stays recently unrelated to the virus & they shared it was an entirely different world than what they've experienced in the past. Hoping you will stay safe, too!
DeleteHow delightfully wonderful Linda, your poem and your art–I love your drawing with the circle wooden discs! Looks and sounds like they should be in a book… thanks!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, Linda! So creative!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle & Laura. Wishing you will have some creative fun this challenging month & to stay in good health, too.
ReplyDeleteYour creativity with your circles and your words is impressive, Linda! Frost was full of "sage advice," wasn't he?
ReplyDeleteLinda, your passel of circles is very pleasing. Are you really writing and drawing on them? I would be compelled to keep them pristine. This couplet is very timely indeed. I'll be happy when we can get back to passing lollipops over the neighborly fence (which your picture also made me think of)!
ReplyDeleteLinda! I LOVE what you're doing this month—pulling out all the creative stops! Went back to read Day 1 and Day 2, as well. Just delightful.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE your project! I promise I will be reading every post...I just may not have time to stop and leave some words. (Thank you for leaving a trail of love on my blog!!)
ReplyDeleteSo great! I went back and read your first two, and when I'm done leaving this comment, I'll go read today's. What a wonderful project!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone, happy that you enjoyed my post & others, too. It is fun & I certainly have time for it. Yes, Heidi I am writing on them. There are a lot of them, so think it'll be okay. Best wishes to all of you writing and creating life!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea, Linda - bringing your little circles to life each day. I look forward to seeing the different ways you use them.
ReplyDeleteLove the couplet, love the sketch, Linda! I look forward to your poetic month of creativity!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sally & Karen. It's going to be a good thing to write, to figure out "what's next?"
ReplyDeleteI love the circle poetry and Frost - I adore the fence! How creative! Talk about the artist's eye ... this made me smile. Thank you, Linda, for the light-hearted moment; regarding your verse, Frost's "neighbor" clearly appreciated social distance ... I am with the poet: Before I built a wall/I'd ask to know/What I was walling in or walling out ... something to mull, now, isn't it. Sadly.
ReplyDeleteSo much wisdom in the poem, and for us today! Thanks, Fran, yes, saddest of all about walls!
DeleteBrilliant poem - and your artwork is so charming, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tara.
