A Poem for the Beginning of School - who we are

I love using the following poem with my older students.  It can lift them another level in poetry, showing what is possible with some wonderful word work.  And it is marvelous for discussions about identity.  I have used it often at the beginning of the school year.

  1. I love this poem! Thank you so much for sharing it...it's a completely new one to me, and it made me feel so sorry for Spiderman, opening up a new way to think about everyone we think "has it made." I'll definitely be sharing this poem with upper grade readers, and I look forward to reading more of your recommendations. Thank you for joining in on Poetry Friday! A.
