Holding Moments

Happy Easter and Passover everyone.  Each holiday we are reminded of other ones in the past, where we were, who we were with, what we used as traditions, even perhaps why we did celebrate with those traditions.  I have been more reflective lately and tonight wrote this poem because I was looking for another picture and came across an early school picture of me.  And, so I wrote.

When I gaze upon the photograph

Of me
I see
A little girl whose face just makes me smile
And pause
Because
In having lingering thoughts of years ago
I find I hold the happiest moments in tow
Those round
Eyes brown
Remind me of good events—of course don't last
But I am ever gladdened by my past.

    1. Maureen, what a nice compliment, those adorable faces make me smile, especially my granddaughters. The oldest has some special teachers right now, so I admire all of you who begin that wonderful school experience for the youngest ones.

  5. Linda, That beautiful little girl grew up to be a beautiful love-scatterer. I am thinking about you today and am happy you got to be with those 2 little echoes from this photo. We are driving from VT (my sister) to MA (Mark's sister) right now... Happy Easter! a.

  6. Linda,
You are right the traditions of the holidays do cause us to pause and remember. I think this very thing inspired my poem for today. I enjoyed your school picture. I enjoyed your line, "lingering thoughts of years ago." It seems these memories are the ones we hold tightly to for many years.

  8. We were kids...so hard to believe now that we're living in these wrinkling bodies...and those 24 kids I share my days with...they will be (God willing) old as me one day...and I'll be gone...and the river keeps running...time keeps flowing...so hard to believe, even when you see it before your eyes...
