Celebrating

Thanks to Ruth Ayres for creating a place to celebrate the little and the big times in our lives.  If you are visiting, check HERE for the links.
And tweet at #CelebrateLu

The biggest news to celebrate is that the BC teachers's strike has ended and  Carrie Gelson of There's A Book For That; and Adrienne Gear of Reading Power Gear go back to work on Monday! Hurrah!

            I'm celebrating:
  • Walking every day, enjoying the gorgeous weather.
  • Being a Cybils' judge for poetry once again. See the announcements here. You'll recognize so many names on the lists!
  • Reading a book to my granddaughter's class this week. They're studying food for their class unit this year, so I read Eat Like A Bear by April Pulley Sayre and Steve Jenkins, very fun, beautiful to see and to hear. And marvelous to have Ingrid right there in the group, listening. She came home with me today, too!
  • Making plans with colleagues. It was good to talk even more with different people, to discover concerns and goals now that they're had their classes for a while, getting to know the students.
  • Writing, writing, writing. I am taking an online poetry workshop this month with
Renée La Tulippe, who blogs at No Water River. If you are interested in learning more about children's writing, and ready to spend the time each day, this is a marvelous experience. Check the blog link for more info!

It was a good week. I hope yours was, too!

    1. You're welcome, Carrie. I am really excited for you! It was a lot of fun to be in Ingrid's class, & she actually answered a question I asked, too! I know that she is wondering about how to act, but we are working it out. The leaves are turning, took another picture today-fall is so pretty!

  4. So happy to hear Carrie and Adrienne's news!
So fun that you got to read in Ingrid's class. When Sara was in 1st grade, her grandmother Dorothy from KS came to visit and Sara's class acted out the book The Doorbell Rang. Grandma loved arriving with the huge tray of cookies for everyone in the class.
I have a bear book request. I'm looking for a book about a bear who reads. The bear is sprawled in an Adirondack chair and there are fall leaves on the cover. If I remember correctly...he reads to animals in the forest. I can't for the life of me remember the title and it's not Bear Tells a Story (which I have and love). Hopefully someone who knows the book will rescue me.

    1. Yes, exciting news for BC for sure. Such a good story about your own Sara, Ramona! The only bear book I know, a trick story really, is Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens (a former parent). It has a bear in an adirondack chair on the cover. Sorry, it doesn't seem right. I'll keep thinking! And good luck!

    2. LeAnn knew the book - it's A Story for Bear by Dennis Haseley! I love the power of this community!

  5. What a wonderful week. I read your response to Carrie about Ingrid learning how to act with you in the classroom. I have had my son, my niece twice, two great nieces and a cousin in class. It is an adjustment for everyone, but I did enjoy teaching all of them. Congrats on your Cybils' announcement. Book awards are so exciting and I am sure being a part of the process is very rewarding too!

    1. Thanks Leigh Anne especially for telling me about your experiences with so many relatives in class. My mother was my teacher for 5th & 6th grade, & I remember both loving the learning, but being embarrassed too. Adjustment is right! I do love being on the Cybils' committee-much learning & loving poetry makes it a great opportunity.
