Thanks to Penny Parker Klostermann's invitation to participate in her
series, “A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt”, I had the pleasure of working with
my granddaughter, Ingrid, writing and drawing. We’re visiting Penny this Poetry Friday! You
can read about our time here!
I am
spending a second week on Captiva Island, reading, writing and just being. My family spent this last week together, and it was a wonderful time, but this week it’s
just me. I am not returning to school for the first time in many years, and
this week is staff week.
But I
am not there. I hope to have a great year: different and new, exciting and
quiet, scary and fun. Today, I’m
sharing some new words about the ocean. I’m fortunate to be able to
experience this mesmerizing sea a bit closer than usual, and I’ve written three haiku to
mirror one day this week. Next month I know it will change again, and next
season, too. But this is what I’ve noticed one specific daytime, among so many other wonders!
Hello, Dear Linda - I've been thinking of you often these last couple of weeks, as you begin a new adventure. So thankful you've had some time for rest and inspiration at the sea - nothing better. Wishing you a glorious fall and beyond - :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your frothy poems!
Thanks, Robyn, so nice of you to send me good wishes. It's been a wonderful time here. I envy you your sweet place!
DeleteOoh, LInda, I love these "evening extras." Lovely! And you and Ingrid are quite a creative team. What a treasure! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Irene, for all! I'm excited to see what Ingrid thinks of all that Penny shared!
DeleteI love "low tide bubbles leftovers"!!! Just right! Glad you are getting some time for yourself. Retirement is exciting in such different ways! Now to pop over to Penny's!
ReplyDeleteComing from one who is at the ocean a lot, I love that you think it's right! Thanks, Donna.
DeleteI think it's wonderful that you took an extra week on Captiva, Linda– just for you and your writing. Judging by your haiku, I can't think of a better place to be. Thanks for sharing these few moments with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michelle, both weeks have been treasures!
DeleteIt looks like you have been paying close attention at the beach, Linda! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tabatha. I've spent an extraordinary time just watching, and loved it.
DeleteI've been following your photo documentation on FB. Captiva looks heavenly and obviously inspirational!
ReplyDeleteYes, it really is, but I am also loving the time here, no rushing out the door to meet some other expectation. Thanks, Diane.
DeleteI know many of us who are starting the school year envy your quiet, soulful time. What a beautiful image and inspiring haiku. And yet, I hope it's not lonely. The start of a school year, while stressful, is also full of potential. I hope you find the potential for your new direction through your beach walking.
ReplyDeleteI am taking the week for me because I can, Margaret, and then back to the busy life next week, but not full time teaching. No worries, I'm not lonely, and thanks for your caring. I will be working and mentoring a young teacher this year, so not completely away, and also will be a good grandmother visiting Ingrid and Imi.
DeleteThese poems are so calm and soothing. Wishing you all the best, and much writing inspiration, during this next phase of your life.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama, I'm happy you enjoyed the poems.
DeleteLovely to meet you, Linda. And on a beach, of all places. :) I'm with Donna - and love the 'low tide bubbles leftovers'. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you liked those 'leftovers'!
DeleteLinda, a series of three haikus for the amazing photo-how splendid. I favor #1 with a foamy breakfast. Thank you for taking the readers through a day at the beach. I have never been to Captiva so I am wondering if you can offer this to Summer Splashings?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invitation, Carol. I'll be glad to share, will send it when I get home.
DeleteHow wonderful Linda. Thank you. Your poem is a beautiful tribute to summer in at the sea in a site I have never been.
DeleteHow wonderful for you to start your new adventure (post-classroom) in such a gorgeous setting, with time both for family and just for you. Your photo is gorgeous, and I loved going through the day at water's edge with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Mary Lee. I traveled today, am home now, and will miss that water for a long while.
DeleteA beautiful match of photo and poetry - I especially like 'fishing flash'. Good luck with your new adventure.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sally, I appreciate the wish, and will have a great time this fall writing, and ?
DeleteI knew you were writing this week! Thanks for sharing. You captured those three times of day so perfectly. And now you're headed home for more adventures. Kudos for your new season!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ramona, I am finally home, and as I said above, I'll miss the ocean a lot-enjoyed every bit of it. But, once settled in, ready for more things here at home.
DeleteI am taking moments out to vicariously enjoy your week alone on the beach as I am in the midst of flurry. Beautiful words and picture.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie, it was a wonderful time, and of course I'm thinking of all of you, too.
DeleteI can practically smell the ocean as I read your haiku! They're beautiful. I also enjoyed yours and Ingrid's poem and illustration on Penny's blog. I love how the two of you collaborated on the process.
ReplyDeleteWith your always positive attitude, I just know you'll enjoy this new stage of life to the full. Is a book in the works?
I "hope" I can now get settled into a routine, Violet, and work hard to organize myself, work on the poems already written, start some new things. No book yet, but I started something a long while ago, maybe will take a new look. Thank you! And happy you enjoyed Ingrid's and my collaboration too.
DeleteThe sea is a wonderful source of inspiration. Clearly it inspired your beautiful words! Lovely picture too. Enjoy your time of creative solitude.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Iza, It was a marvelous time, home now & the memories will stay with me.
DeleteTo have a week alone with the sea - that is truly a gift, Linda. I'm so glad to see how you are taking such wonderful care of your soul. I am sure you will come home even enriched by this exquisite experience. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was just terrific, Myra. I know how much you love the sea, too, & always enjoy your family trips. Thank you!
Delete"foamy breakfast" made my mouth tickle! Ah, time by the sea. Makes one philosophical and grateful to be alive. Hugs and hurrays for your new adventure -- excited to see what wonders you'll create!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keri. I appreciate the wishes. I'm looking forward to that adventure, too.
DeleteOh the exquisiteness that is your ocean haiku, Linda! "foamy breakfast" indeed! I long for the ocean - while the desert is beautiful I do miss the ocean. Luckily I will rectify that in October when I go visit family in CA. I'm sure I'll write poetry to experience the on a deeper level like you did here. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bridget, very happy to hear you'll get some ocean love soon.
