Thanks to Penny Parker Klostermann's invitation to participate in her
series, “A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt”, I had the pleasure of working with
my granddaughter, Ingrid, writing and drawing. We’re visiting Penny this Poetry Friday! You

I am
spending a second week on Captiva Island, reading, writing and just being. My family spent this last week together, and it was a wonderful time, but this week it’s
just me. I am not returning to school for the first time in many years, and
this week is staff week.
But I
am not there. I hope to have a great year: different and new, exciting and
quiet, scary and fun. Today, I’m
sharing some new words about the ocean. I’m fortunate to be able to
experience this mesmerizing sea a bit closer than usual, and I’ve written three haiku to
mirror one day this week. Next month I know it will change again, and next
season, too. But this is what I’ve noticed one specific daytime, among so many other wonders!

I know many of us who are starting the school year envy your quiet, soulful time. What a beautiful image and inspiring haiku. And yet, I hope it's not lonely. The start of a school year, while stressful, is also full of potential. I hope you find the potential for your new direction through your beach walking.
These poems are so calm and soothing. Wishing you all the best, and much writing inspiration, during this next phase of your life.
I am taking the week for me because I can, Margaret, and then back to the busy life next week, but not full time teaching. No worries, I'm not lonely, and thanks for your caring. I will be working and mentoring a young teacher this year, so not completely away, and also will be a good grandmother visiting Ingrid and Imi.

How wonderful for you to start your new adventure (post-classroom) in such a gorgeous setting, with time both for family and just for you. Your photo is gorgeous, and I loved going through the day at water's edge with you!

I "hope" I can now get settled into a routine, Violet, and work hard to organize myself, work on the poems already written, start some new things. No book yet, but I started something a long while ago, maybe will take a new look. Thank you! And happy you enjoyed Ingrid's and my collaboration too.

Oh the exquisiteness that is your ocean haiku, Linda! "foamy breakfast" indeed! I long for the ocean - while the desert is beautiful I do miss the ocean. Luckily I will rectify that in October when I go visit family in CA. I'm sure I'll write poetry to experience the on a deeper level like you did here. =)
