#SOL16 - 24/31 Blizzard - Yes, It's Spring!

SOL16 #24/31 -
I'm slicing with the Two Writing Teachers community for Day Twenty-Four of Thirty-One of the Slice of Life Challenge in March.  Thank you Stacey, Tara, Anna, Betsy, Dana, Kathleen, Beth, and Deb.
"The snow itself is lonely or, if you prefer, self-sufficient. There is no other time when the whole world seems composed of one thing and one thing only."  Joseph Wood Crutch

Those who know me on Facebook know what my post will be today, the blizzard here in Colorado! We had temperatures in the seventies on Tuesday, and woke up to eight inches of snow, and  still snowing, blowing sideways. I went out three times to the back to shake the heavy snow off my weakest evergreens, and each time, the snow was deeper. Late in the day, the snow was just drifting down and I went to clean off the car (I don't have a garage) and to help clean out the alley. No one plows the alley. I am proud to say that two neighbor women and I shoveled the entire six houses' worth of alley. I wish I had taken a picture of my car, piled so high. It all took about an hour, and I was more than done. My arms will be tired tomorrow.
So what did I do on a snowy day that shut much of the city down? I spoke about pictures telling a story yesterday, so I took pictures to tell the story. FYI-I didn't take a picture of all the reading of posts and my book and commenting. You probably know I did that.

WHAT TO DO ON A DAY FULL OF BLIZZARD

Make applesauce. Fill the air with cinnamon.

Keep the pot heating. Find the biggest cup.
Light the candle. Sit and watch for a while.
Make a quesadilla for lunch. (I never cook for lunch.)
Take lots of photos of the changing snow.
Look top to bottom, left to right. The mound in the second and the fourth is the same little birdbath. The corner post loaded up in the last photo is the same one
in the upper left of the first picture.

The sun showed up about five, and the day ended with a lovely sunset.

  1. I have a good friend who lives in Fort Collins, so I got to see pictures from you and from her. I can't believe how much snow you got! I am so proud that you and your friends shoveled out six houses. Way to go! Rest today!

    1. It was quite a day, and some people didn't have such a wonderful one, were stranded in certain places, etc. I hope I can get out to the bookstore today, Michelle. Thanks!

  2. What a day, huh? It's beautiful out there today, blue, blue, blue sky and sparkly diamond snow. Last night they said we were going to have snow, but this morning, after I had gotten up and taken a shower, made coffee, etc., they cancelled. I think there is just too much snow, tree branches, etc. on the roads around the schools.

    1. I was surprised, & I think the bookstore will be closed too. I'll see what it's like later in the morning, but am worried about getting out with my little car. Enjoy your day, Carol.

  3. What a way to spend a snowy day. I usually hunker down and wait for my husband to shovel while the kids and I sit and watch from the window. I swear that I could smell the applesauce in your crockpot. What a great Slice and I loved the pictures to add to the visual of your snowy day!

    1. Thanks, I actually do enjoy being out, have good boots and gear to keep me warm, & shoveling also kept me very warm (Ha!). Now for the thaw!

  4. Our snow happened overnight, so no pictures....but the snow is so heavy. I know what I'll be helping with on my first day of break.

    1. I know, as you read I've shoveled some, but keep looking at my backyard & wonder how long it will take to melt! Maybe I'll build a snowman today? Enjoy your day, Deb! We have another snow day today for the schools. All the side roads are not plowed & there are lots of limbs down, too.

  5. I love the contrast in your words and pictures. Your captions create a pace to your day and your slice. What an interesting technique.

    1. I loved those words about snow, too, Irene. Thanks, supposed to be near 50 today, so slush will come! It is a beauty of a day today.

  7. Applesauce and candles - so appropriate on a day like this. Good that you didn't stay only in. Shoveling is a good exercise and I bet you had fun taking all the pictures. And I sure hope you get to build a snowman.

    1. I hope so too, Terje. The snow is so wet this time, perfect for building!

  8. We had the tail end of your storm in Minnesota. The southern part of the state got more snow but here in Minneapolis we got about an inch. The trees were beautiful outlined in snow. I am a bit worried about my tulips but the sun is out today so we should be fine. I love the pictures of your day!

    1. Glad you only got the edge. I don't know what will happen now to the tulips which were just coming up. I suspect they're fairly smushed. Thanks Joanne, it is certainly pretty out!

  9. Wow, Linda, I do not miss spring snow falls! We have had strong winds here from the storms, but no rain which we could always use in the desert.

    1. I wish this had been a nice day's rain, but there is a lot of moisture in it. Things will be green at least for a while.

  10. When I saw the story on the news last night, I thought of you right away, Linda. Here's hoping that those 70's come back super quick to melt all the snow. Stay warm!

    1. Thanks, Jennifer, another snow day today for the schools because the roads are so bad. I think everyone will have a great day today playing. I am keeping warm, sunny today & tomorrow, then more snow (not as much) on Friday. Strange week!

  12. So glad it is your backyard and not mine! The snow is beautiful, and you get the moisture you need. I love the cozy feeling of being stranded in the house, but of course, the power needs to stay on.

    1. We have buried wires, so no problem in our neighborhood, but many went without power for part of the day. The sun is out & streets are better. I do wonder how they'll be with freezing tonight?

  13. This is such a fun post and reminds me of what we missed this year in my part of the world! We had only one snowy weekend around here... I loved how the pictures told the story.

  14. Not being able to shovel snow at the moment I must say that I was relived the snow didn't make it to PA. There is beauty in freshly fallen snow.

    1. It is/was beautiful, & I don't mind if I'm not in a hurry. I love being out in it. I do know that there are many workers to appreciate during such a storm, too. I think this one went way north, right?
