Poetry Friday - Winter Swap

Donna Smith at Mainely Write hosts this final Poetry Friday of 2018. Time for reflection and choosing a direction toward 2019. What will we plan in delight? What will we do with delight without planning at all? Donna speaks of another kind of travel. With or without the GPS of today, I'm wishing everyone a new year filled with, yes, delight! Donna's begun that journey in a new place, discovering angels as she explores. I say that's a delightful start! Thanks for being our guide this Friday, Donna!

Last week I had already posted my Poetry Friday sharing and then (in my every-day late mail) came a swap gift from Erin Mauger, all the way from Australia, part of the 2018 Winter Swap wonderfully created and organized by Tabatha Yeatts. It is fun to receive any kind of mail, but that from the world down under made it extra special.

Including a handmade card, a nice quote, a marvelous boomerang magnet, I've been gifted a grand send-off to the new year. In her note, Erin mentions a beloved visit to Colorado and sent an old photo from that trip, connecting to her poem, too.

Thank you, Erin, for this special beginning to my new year!

I love every bit, reminds me of a lullaby one could sing to a loved one. But the second verse thrilled me because of the December writing of #haikuforhope some of us have been writing. That's you, Mary Lee Hahn, Catherine Flynn, Heidi Mordhorst, Linda Mitchell, Margaret Simon, Kevin Hodgson, Julieanne Harmatz, Michelle Kogan, Carol Varsalona and Jean LaTourette.

Happy New Year, everyone!

  1. Wonderful collection! As a plant-lover, I am taken with Erin's imagery in the second stanza. Is "delight" your One Little Word for 2019? I'm delighted!

  3. I thought the same as Tabatha--that you have already chosen one OLW for 2019! It's so nice to see what everyone is receiving, almost like we are gifted too...thank you for sharing in such detail. And isn't Erin's handwritten poem lovely to look at?

  4. What a sweet gift....just lovely. I've enjoyed seeing Erin join our community and this really seals the deal. Her poem is sentimental and sweet and traditional and connects with Co. through the photograph. Love it. Delight would be a wonderful word for '19. If you choose it, I will applaud it. You bring delight to Poetry Friday.

  5. I'm with Heidi. What struck me was a handwritten poem. While I write in my notebook, the final products I share are always digital. Something to ponder for 2019. Happy new year! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/

  6. Thanks to all of you! A poem that's handwritten is special, I agree. I haven't chosen a 'one little word' in a few years. Perhaps it just gave me a big nudge!

  7. Linda, I also nudge you to choose you one little word and thanks for delighting us with your gifts from Erin. I think that poem she sent is a fine message for all of us. May the winter season bring you many delightful bits of happiness, my friend.

  8. Erin's poem is a delightful gift and a reminder to us all to nourish what feeds us and discard what doesn't and hold our dear ones closer. Thanks for sharing her gift to you, Linda. Happy New Year!

  9. I sent Erin a swap this time. It was a bit late getting out but I hope it gets to her soon. What a delight her poem is. I looked up past posts, thinking delight was a word I'd chosen once, but couldn't find it. Delight is a word I like to use frequently. There is a niceness to the feel of it on the tongue. I think it would suit you well for 2019!

  11. What a gorgeous poem Erin wrote for you Linda, she touched on so many meaningful areas to you, seeds, plants, growth, and "A year is full of promise." and lovely card, photo and boomerang. Enjoy all, especially the promise to come!

  12. I have never participated in a poem swap, but I always salivate over the posts describing what people have gotten. The givers are always so thoughtful and so creative! This gift looks lovely, and extra special because it came so far!
