A Whoosh of A Week!

Thanks to Ruth Ayres at Discover, Play, Build we celebrate the week of special moments.
The time at school before the holidays fills and fills. It's like a holiday basket overflowing each and every day. Last week I celebrated family time during our time of Thanksgiving. This week I'm celebrating my week with students, working each day to complete projects for their units, read their books, preparing for different "events" that happen in the final week before winter break.
Students in my school study different topics independently, and here is what some of the students worked on this week: a blueprint of a house model that will soon be created, a report of the events in the 20th century that caused changes in fashion. an editorial about social media effects on friendships, models of energy-wasting parts of vehicles and possible 'fixes' for them, and plans for a public art piece to be painted in a school stairway. You can see why individual conferences, lists and lists of materials needed are on all of our minds. It was a good, settled week of work for most, including some reading, writing, and art as well.

And I want to share my morning's photo. I'm still trying hard to take an early morning walk, at least around the block, to clear my mind for a new day. It's not easy grabbing the time, but I celebrate the sunrises that also fill me up each morning. And I celebrate the mild weather so far that helps me do it. I think I'm in love with the sky, and am endlessly grateful that we have such beautiful "sky pics" nearly every day.

I hope you've had a wonderful week, and more to anticipate in these busy weeks coming.

  4. I think it was Carol who posted a poem about Hallelujah sky - and I thought immediately of you, Linda. I love your sky pics - so vast and so beautifully changing. I look forward to being under Denver skies in February!

  7. What a gorgeous photo. So pleased that your school is so full of excitement and learning. Just before the holidays is often somewhat stressful in my school - high vulnerability/poverty means that the end of school time is, in fact, more stressful and full of anxiety.

  8. Whoosh! I love this word! Anita and you have given me ideas for another post today! Thanks! :) This is a beautiful photograph, I enjoy looking at your photos so much. Colorado is beautiful. I do love the morning exercise the best. I am finding that sometimes night time is necessary due to temperature changes. That's working too, such a great time to clear your head and reset. Thank you for sharing.

  9. I am so intrigued by your students' independent study topics, especially the 20th century fashion one. History of costume was one of my favorite classes when I was working on my fashion merchandising degree. I don't think many people realize the history behind the things we wear. Beautiful picture too! Walking everyday is something I really need to start doing. Seeing this would certainly make it easier!
