Poetry Friday - Daily Chores

Poetry Friday is out at The Poem Farm with Amy Ludwig VanDerwater. It's a lovely time to be outside!

It's a bit of humor, and a bit of a gripe. You'll understand when you read my poem today.

  1. Oh yes! I absolutely am with you here, Linda. Maybe we should all attach our recycling bins to our mailboxes? You completely capture this sentiment and frustration...and now, on my walk from box to dining room, I will have your great words in my mind! Happy Poetry Friday! xo

    1. Thanks, Amy. You made me laugh to think of the bins connected to the mailboxes!I do try to stop as many as I can, but then new ones arrive too.

  2. I hear you! Tis the season for all those Fall catalogs and other mailings that demand immediate attention. I'm especially frustrated when I actually take the time to write to these people to tell them to remove me from their mailing list, but I continue to receive their junk mail.

    1. Receiving even more this time of year is probably the inspiration for this poem, Jama. My name seems to be on numerous lists!

  3. Linda, Doesn't ever non-profit send out solicitation letters at this time of year to get in on the end of the tax year donations? My mail box has been particularly full recently. I really enjoyed your poem. Your examples are excellent. Good list poem.

    1. Thanks, Joy, & yes, each one tries to catch me more than once it seems. And I do have a number of memberships due, too, hence this poem.

  4. Yes! You know what I hate even more? When the junk mail includes non-recyclable bits that just go straight into the landfill. What a waste.

    1. You're right, those 'fake' cards with my name that I have to cut up or shred. I do wish they would stop! Thanks, Michelle.

  5. Ha! Kind of goes with Heidi's post of the "busy" poem! Time and paper! It's hard to sort to find the important things. I'm doing that on my phone lately, screening calls from friends and family vs "there is no problem with your credit card...we just want to let you know...blah, blah, blah!"

    1. I haven't had many of those, but some, & many end up in my trash that I have to check, another time waster really.

  6. I have a mail pile that my husband calls The Black Hole. I need to get through it this weekend!

Fun poem we can all relate to!

    1. Thanks, Kelly, I do try to do it daily, otherwise it would become the 'black hole', but other times, hard to face, right?

  7. "It is a treat to press delete." Love that line. So true.

I also had a sobering thought. Do you suppose those editors to whom we send our poems or manuscripts also feel that way about the piles of submission envelopes they face? ("Most of selection is rejection.")

    1. Well, in my defense, I do look at each piece, but hopefully those editors look a little more thoughtfully. I've been working hard at remembering others have a POV that isn't necessarily mine, Violet, so must be thoughtful of your words. Yikes!

  8. "It is a treat to press delete." I love that, too! It is also a treat to press "unsubscribe" but that doesn't sound nearly as good :-)!

    1. Ha! I tried all different ways to work that in, but you're right, didn't work at all. Thanks, Tabatha.

  9. Yes, I think we all have those Black Holes or teetering piles from mailbox and email inbox! I think I'll print out your poem and post it where everything lands and try to do a better job of just tossing things. Love it, Linda!

    1. Thanks, Heidi, I keep thinking of the piles of paper used, just for me. It's something that I try to stop, but they just keep coming!
