Double-Duty Poetry Today!

It's my day to add to this year’s Kidlitosphere Progressive poem, a collaboration thanks to Irene Latham. the creator of this wonderful April tradition. After Laura Purdie-Salas started us with a "swoop" of an opening line, it's been followed by eleven other poets and their images, connecting, moving us on to other places, while a couple of voices continue to"tell" this story.
And I'm also happy to visit Michelle Barnes' Today's Little Ditty with an echo poem in response to the challenge given HERE on Michelle's blog.

After paying close attention to the poem, I realized that I would be starting a new stanza, and this raised some questions: Do I keep the same intent of nature and a voice or two, following along with Michelle's line in the previous stanza? Or can I move us into a new area entirely? This is exciting; the poem is nearing the middle and perhaps some different action is required?
After reading Michelle's line, I knew that she had given me a push toward NEW!

Here is the poem with my line added:

A squall of hawk wings stirs the sky.
A hummingbird holds and then hies.
If I could fly, I'd choose to be
Sailing through a forest of poet-trees.

A cast of crabs engraves the sand
Delighting a child's outstretched hand.
If I could breathe under the sea,
I’d dive, I’d dip, I’d dance with glee

clump of crocuses crave the sun.
Kites soar while joyful dogs run.
I sing to spring, to budding green,
to all of life— seen and unseen.

Wee whispers drift from cloud to ear

Looking forward to what comes next from Jone MacCulloch at DeoWriter!

  3. Linda, the wee whispers from the clouds can send us into a new imaginative realm of a child. I am loving the poem so far. Sitting with the poem a while, adding a line, and sending it out feels like sharing a secret. That game when you never knew what message would come out in the end.

  6. Mmmmm... "whispers drift" is a gorgeous pairing of words. You've made a lovely bridge between the first part of the poem to the next part, Linda - I wonder what those clouds are whispering to Jone? :0)

  7. Linda, the gentle drifting of soft whispers is such a beautiful thought. I can picture this in my mind because I am always looking to nature for inspiration. From cloud to ear is a wonderful link. Your start to stanza 3 is going to send us where???

  8. Ooh, this is lovely, Linda! I like how you picked up on the mood and nudge of Michelle's line and created something organic from there. And...added a bit of mystery!

  9. Oh, those wee whispers drifting . . . wonder where Jone will take us tomorrow. Just when I thought our poem had a solid pattern, it goes drifting off ... not surprised that you added a cloud to the images.

  13. I am so late this week getting caught up. I decided to keep the poem suspense and visit each contributor in order, though! I love the image of the cloud whispering...I used the word "wee" yesterday - and I hadn't read this yet...
Great addition. Now on to Jone -

  16. Linda, I love your hyacinths and biscuits quote! You start the next stanza with seen + unseen but heard: clouds and whispers. What are they saying? Are they singing back?

I'll continue my belated catching up with Jone....
