#NPM17 - 14/30 Poetry Friday

"Poetry is eternal graffiti written in the heart of everyone." – Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Poetry Friday
      Poetic things of interest:
  •          See Irene Latham's  Progressive Poem's schedule on the page above.  It's getting to be quite an exciting poem!
  •         Today's host is lovely Doraine Bennett at Dori Reads! She shows the process and shares a new poem crafted from the ideas from the new poetry book by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong, Here We Go. Read to see if you don't connect to the feelings shared in the poem.
  •          If you'd like to see what everyone is doing for Poetry Month, look HERE at Jama Rattigan's post at Jama's Alphabet Soup.
  •  Bridget Magee and her family have started a project in response to the chaos happening in our government. Go HERE to find out about it, to see how you can help!
My goal for Poetry Month: TINY THINGS. My choices may surprise you, and I'm excited to write, share, and read how everyone writes to meet their special goals for celebrating poetry month.

One cannot always change what happens on a given day. My daughter has a huge art celebration Friday and through the weekend, and today is Ingrid's 8th birthday. Oops! So I will try to comment as much as possible, but I have the girls for the afternoon, evening and overnight. We're going to do as much celebrating as we can. We're going to the zoo, we're going to a new restaurant I think they'll enjoy, and then we'll play and read lots of books at bedtime. Ingrid is lucky. She will have two days of celebrations! And Imogene gets to join the fun, too!

Thus, my 'tiny' poem. . .

birthday candles

add another candle
to mark the year that’s passed

quick, the matches, light them
the time arrives -- at last

all eight candles blazing
and glowing is her grin

wish granted with a whoosh of air
this merry time begins

    1. Thanks, Heidi, and yes, I do know that 8 year olds are special to you. It is not 'tween', but so different from the kinders and first graders, I think. We had a wonderful time.

  22. Sweet poem! That would be so nice to make into a card for her! Or did you??? I hope you had a wonderful celebration. I had my two grandkids last week with my daughter. What with bikes and bubbles and long walks! Oh, and the walk featured a dead squirrel and coyote poop! Extra exciting!
