Auggie, from that marvelous new book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio says: “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”

I am waiting for my copy of Wonder to arrive in the mail. I can't wait to find your quote in there. It feels so good to be a consistent writer again...it takes time but I appreciate those little moments so much more. A standing ovation to you too. Thank you for all of the wonderful comments. They just make my day.

I just finished Wonder last night and I loved it!!! That quote also resonated with me. Thanks for the standing ovation. I am proud of all of us slicers, too! Last year I tried the challenge, but only wrote 4 out of 31 days. I haven't missed a day yet, so I'm pretty proud of myself. It's sometimes a struggle, but completely worth it. Thanks for your encouragement and comments! :)

Way to use that great quote from Augustus. That line stood out for me, too, and I agree: this year's slice has been something incredible. It's like someone opened the spigot for writers, and now, we are connecting into a larger writing community.

Last night I told my husband excitedly this "Slice of Life" part of my life. I told him about you and others...and about the cheering I "heard" when people responded to my posts....and how I NEVER, ever even thought about that as a need or purpose...... He looked at me as if I were a little off or perhaps had a little too much wine when I said, "There are people out there who think like me!"

One of my favorite parts of WONDER is Auggie's comment about standing ovations and then also a later part in the book related to that. Comments are like a standing ovation at times - don't you think? I always write my slice in my own head, of course. When I see others actually think it resonated with them I'm surprised and thrilled. Great post.

But, alas, I know my words change me, they change the way I view the world, they help me gain insight and perspective. I know the audience seeking is not what's most important.
