It's been such a busy summer, and I have been out of town for most of it. There have been good times away, but I haven't had much time to write. I have managed to write a few poems for a project I've been working on for a while. I love learning about plants and this has given me an interesting focus. Here's a recent one, a favorite plant in our semi-arid climate.
Lamb’s Ear - Stachys byzantine
Mary had a little lamb,
with ears as soft as these
with ears as soft as these
and everywhere she traveled
the lamb was sure to please.
now within your garden
more lambs will grow and stay.
They’ll make you smile when petting
and never run away.

What I tried to say...great poem, Linda! I love Lambs Ear and recently discovered that the blossoms , though not too colorful, make striking and long-lasting cut flowers. Great shapes.

Great poem, Linda! I miss soft, cuddly plants. Everything in my yard has harsh thorns or pokeys. Ouch! = )

I love this parody of Mary Had a Little Lamb. I love to touch these plants and feel their soft leaves. We don't have them around here, though, so I'll have to look at your picture and imagine.
Great fun, Linda! Makes me want to go out and pet and plant some lambs ears (I think those in my garden died back in the very dry summer we had several years ago, and I never replaced them.)

What a sweet poem, Linda-- perfect for children to learn and appreciate the world around them. I could definitely see this in some kind of collection or themed-anthology. This summer has been starved of writing for me as well. I'm hoping I can get back to some kind of writing routine soon, because it seems to get harder the longer I'm away!
Hard to believe it's August! We have been doing training for two weeks-- I'm looking forward to being back with kids.
Although I'll be going back to work soon, it will be a routine, and helpful for the writing. Thank you for the comment, helps to keep going.
