The Way It Is - Poetry Friday

It's Poetry Friday, and Buffy Silverman is hosting HERE on her website! This time, Buffy's interviewing Suzy Levinson, of Animals in Pants fame, about Suzy's newest book, Dinos That Drive. Be sure to check it out!

My recent days have made me thankful for so much, from nearby and far away family and friends. I was sorry not to be able to connect with most of you who were here at NCTE, but so glad that the weather held for everyone! There was no snow, which may come this weekend, and so needed. We've only had a bit of rain in the past couple of months and it's stayed mostly in the fifties - quite unusual for us in Denver. The mountains are in dire need. They usually have many come in for this long holiday weekend, but few resorts have opened. SOON?

I wrote a poem for all of you who have prepared for or helped with Thanksgiving dinner. I share the prep now with my daughter and son-in-law, but I remember other times, with family, busy, busy!

The Way It Is

Slice, mix, boil, toil

Stir, peel, shake, bake

Shell, carve, baste, taste

Melt, pour, dip, sip

A toast to you this special day!

          My attitude:

          Gratitude!

  1. Bravo! It is exactly this in my kitchen. This year, I pleaded with my family to just let me do the cooking. I don't know why but it's easier if I make the meal. I did give all the clean up and weekend cooking to them, though. I mean fair is fair right? I'm off to have pie for breakfast. It's the best part of Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving you YOU!

    2. Yes! Pie for breakfast sounds exactly like the day after, Linda! If you do all the cooking, I'm sure you know those actions! Enjoy the weekend!

  3. Tastey poem Linda, love the “baste, taste” I was busy with that, and the swiftness of the poem fits the busyness of preparing all day… Happy Day After Thanksgiving! ☺️🦃🍁

  4. Linda!!! I am sharing this with my lovely daughter-in-law, Meredith, with whom I just worked with to prepare Thanksgiving dinner on the road! I especially love the "My attitude: Gratitude" as I am especially trying to focus on that these days! Thank you!!!

  5. Isn't it fun to move from doing it all/most to sharing the boil/toil/bake! And to share that gratitude...the best!

  6. Those verbs capture it all! My younger kiddo didn't make it home this year, but she shared photos of the thanksgiving that she and her spouse hosted. Fun to think of them taking the reins.

  7. Those pecan pies! Oh my! I literally could taste the "carmelly" (is that a word)?? filling my mom used to make. Yum! And your short action verbs help us feel the pace of so many to-dos for the Holidays. Thank you!

  8. Thanks to everyone for coming by! It was fun to imagine all that we do for this Thanksgiving feast! Yes, finding the way to slow down to be grateful for so much is what Thanksgiving helps me do. And, Cathy, I love pecan pies, too!

  9. Hello dear Linda, A warm & delicious kitchen tribute poem - appreciations! I mouth-water & smile in a special way, for the pecan pie crafters. Our daughter made ours her signature & now happily working Tor the Good" across the pond", she isn't baking in our kitchen at the Giving Thanks time anymore. But, like your longed for Colorado snow that surely will be here next month, she & her hubby, our bonus son, will be arrive quite a generous bit, before Christmas. Let it Snow! Which it did here in Tallahassee, this year :)
I hope your entire weekend & the holiday season going forward is the serene time you deserve. Hugs from your Florida!
I LOVED seeing you in front of. the incredible creative bookstore, where you volunteer, which Irene shared on her blog this time [ & I going-too-fast-me, forgot to mention when I was there... I'ts a great foto of a very healthy bounce-back Linda B!

  12. Fun poem, Linda! I did little cooking on Thanksgiving--just made a salad and app tray. But Tuesday, we'll be fixing a TG dinner for both kids/partners. I will prepare by reading your poem, as cooking stresses me out.
