Celebrations All Around

Love this quote I found from Lily Tomlin: "For Fast-Acting Relief – Try Slowing Down"

This week, after our Expo, our school was on vacation. I had things to do, personal and for work, too, but I did try to have some s.l.o.w time, to stay lazy early in the morning, to write more just for me, and to read more. It was a nice week.

I saw: my son, daughter-in-law and grandson who live in Texas, a short visit, but so great to be with them! I posted this Tuesday too, and here they are again!

I took more photos of the sky.

I wrote more poems!  I've been writing poems to color prompts for Laura Shovan's birthday month poetry challenge. Some are pretty good; some are not, but I've written one almost every day-great practice.  Here's one I enjoyed, using both color words given this time, aloe and zinc:

zinc

Finding Face

From aloe to zinc,
she bought her beauty
at the nearby Walgreen’s,
filling the cart
with an alphabet of
make-up,
rejecting Mother Nature’s
paint job.

I finished Elizabeth Wein's second book, Rose Under Fire.   Code Name Verity is the first one, although they are only peripherally connected. I've been yearning to read this second one for a long time, just couldn't get to it-beautiful story. First book I cried over in a long time.  Both are beautifully done.

I listened to some favorite music.
Do you know the world group, Playing for Change? Awesome to see and listen to children playing and singing all over the world. Here's one piece from YouTube. You can find many more, from numerous adults too!
And that's my week, a very good one.  Hope your week was terrific, too!

  11. It looks like you had a wonderful week. I love your poem. It made me laugh thinking of all the things we are willing to try to make ourselves - "beautiful" when really we are already beautiful.

My sister is much younger and has a high school dance tonight. She asked me to help her find the right foundation to cover her freckles. I tried to tell her that freckles are beautiful. At 13 I don't think you get this yet. Your poem reminded me of this.

Thanks for sharing beautiful pictures and a great book to add to my future book list.

    Have a great weekend,
    Jen

  16. So glad you had a s l o w week! I have heard so much about Elizabeth Wein's books. I will have to check them out. It might help if I had a slow week to get some reading done. Maybe spring week in 3 weeks! :)

    1. I know you're busy, & now have this new, big project, Leigh Anne. But if you can eke out a little time, they are so worth it. Read about them first, though, they might not be the kind of book you like. Have a great rest of the weekend!

  17. I still haven't read Code Name Verity. Maybe I'll move it to the top of one of my piles. Love hearing about your S.L.O.W. week. I enjoyed mine too, pj days and all. I love your idea of combining slow with my small treats. Great family pic, blue sky pic, and I still want to listen to the music.

  18. Having great moments with family is always a reason for celebration! Maybe for April I'll do a poem-a-day challenge. Let me know if you know of any blog who does that already since it always helps when there's accountability!

    1. I usually do a poem a day, Earl & others do too. If you start reading the Poetry Friday blog posts toward the end of March, you might find someone doing a challenge. I think Mary Lee Hahn often does (blogs at A Year of Reading). Check her blog later in March. I'll try to let others know if I hear of anything.

  19. The break weeks can sometimes be even busier than school weeks, I am glad you took it slow. A-poem-a-day. Is it harder or easier than writing a slice-a-day for a month?

    1. Yes, I was pretty busy this week-back to work so I can just focus on one thing! Poem a day is about the same challenge-I'm trying to figure out if I want to create a challenge for myself rather than just random writing. Will see!
