Poetry - Change

Visit Keri and the Poetry Friday Roundup at Keri Recommends.

On Tuesday, the weather people were right. A cold front/storm was coming. By the time school was over, the temperature had dropped 50 degrees. It rose to 65 and was 15 when I drove home. Wednesday the high was 5. We've had a wonderful autumn, but winter has introduced itself with flamboyance! No leafy poem today, a comment on the week.

this autumn day

the sun cartwheels through morning
there’s laughter at the park

cold slips in after lunch

no lingering on the sidewalk
no one at the park bench
cold means a lonely outside

The chill is on, Linda, and it is so early. I waiting for the arrival of snow but it sounds like your came in with a blast. I love your thought: "but winter has introduced itself with flamboyance! " The ending to your poem is the essence of what a cold winter signifies.

I like the sun cartwheeling around! Hope people don't get sick from the major change in temperature. Keep warm, Linda!

Thanks Carol, we think it might be a heat wave today, a little above freezing!

It's been a challenge to get the students to wear more than hoodies! I hope they don't get sick either-so far, all okay. Thanks Tabatha.

Wow, strange weather! Love the images in your poem and the passage of time. You've captured the day perfectly! Brrrrrrr

Your poem has a much happier tone than mine would! It's 2 degrees here this a.m. Not likin' it.

"a lonely outside" - beautifully rendered observation, Linda! And lovely picture. Should I even mention that the "arctic blast" here on coastal SC involves temps in the 30s at night and 50s during the day? Sending over some sunshine...

It never snowed on Long Island despite all of the hype. If you wish, I would like to add your Autumn Day poem to the Finding Fall Gallery. Did you take a photo of it? Let me know what you think and then send to cvarsalona@gmail.com

Yes, winter is definitely knocking at our doors. I loved this line, Linda: the sun cartwheels through morning. There is something so cheerful about this, almost makes the cold bearable.

Lots of great observations. Stay warm and cozy! That's the fun part of the cold - coming inside!

There was a dusting of snow today in my area, but somehow it missed my neighborhood! Wishing you warmer days!

Love your photo of the frosty images and the words "Cold slipped in after lunch." Hopefully winter is not here to stay. Hoping temps will rise again and you'll enjoy a few more days of fall before winter snuggles in.

Thanks everyone. It's been a wonderful day, above freezing! Amazing how a few degrees means so much.

Gotta love that changeable Colorado weather! But 50 degrees in one day...WOW!

We even have a taste of that wintry blast with the earliest freeze ever. So true how lonely outside is when it's cold. Like swoop! winter took the people away.

Love the contrast of sun "cartwheeling" through the park and then cold means a lonely outside. What a week! Yikes!

I loved. "cold means a lonely outside." Great ending. Come visit me, our weather is just getting nice.

No, no photos Carol, & the frosty one above is not mine. I'll look around to see what I have, or maybe tomorrow-just saw this!
