Carol Varsalona has been collecting poems for what she calls her galleries, and some of us have shared with her and she, in turn, shares a beautiful collection online each season. Carol blogs at Beyond Literacy Link and has had her own large share of winter lately. She is kind when she asks for poems, but she does "nudge", so for the past months I've been on the lookout for "winter". We had unusually warm days early this year, and then at the end of February, set a record for the most snow in that month ever. Strange weather, and so I continued to try to find something to write. Finally, one day, looking out the window, ready to go clean off my car (I don't have a garage.) there it was, and here is my poem and the inspiration.
Sunshine After Snow
white snow snakes
bask on tree branches
outside my window

I love your poem, Linda, and I love the sunshine in your photo! I think we have all your snow! I wrote a poem for Carol's gallery today, also, and have a line about snow-covered branches. Great minds...

Snow snakes - how utterly fabulous! Many a time I have taken in the beauty of snow resting on the branches of the trees, but never thought of it in such a poetic manner. Thank you for the poem; it is beautiful.

Yes, I am tired of winter. However sunshine on newly fallen snow does make for a beautiful picture. I also like sunshine glistening on ice covered tree branches after an ice storm. Thanks for sharing.

That photo gives me hope -- snow on the branches, yes, but it's melting. Like the snake metaphor in your poem. :)
Lovely little slip of a poem! I would like a winter poem with the power to banish endless indoor recesses .... (but at least some of my students have been choosing to write poems then!)

Inspiring. I wonder how snowflakes feel about basking in the sun? It's 50 here. :) The first graders are basking away!

Fantastic poem. I love watching sunshine on the snow. We've had snow snakes in NC only twice this year. Unbelievable because the northeast had so much snow.
