A Slice of Sunshine

            Visit Two Writing Teachers every Tuesday to read everyone's posts! Thanks to Stacey, Tara, Dana, Betsy, Beth and Anna, we keep going!
          I'm continuing to write haiku and haiku-related poetry this month. See my latest below.
           I'm also happy that some of us are sharing on twitter with the hashtag #DigiPoetry, created by Margaret Simon, of Reflections on The Teche.You're welcome to join us. Find the many Poetry Month offerings rounded up by Jama Rattigan at Jama's Alphabet Soup.

       For me, busy at school, busy in the rest of my life, writing poetry is a gift, a relief from all the other thinking I do, about my family, school, my home, my car, my garden, the neighbors, the street, appointments, etc. But when I sit down to write, all that falls away, and I am immersed in words. It's a good slice of my life.

         Other slices of sunshine are my grandchildren, Carter, Ingrid and Imogene.  Today, Ingrid is six. I am reminded of that AA Milne poem about being six. Do you know it?

Now We Are Six - A.A. Milne

This is the ending:
But now I am six, I'm as clever as clever;
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

ALL of the poem is here!
That's six year olds, Ingrid too. Happy Birthday, Ingrid!
Baby Ingrid, about one!

  1. Immersing ourselves in words can help make the world around us melt away -- love that reminder! (And I think I need to do more of that...) Your tulips are beautiful. Such a lovely color. I love spring! Happy birthday to Ingrid too! :)

  4. I feel the same about poetry. It has such a centering quality. Those tulips and one-year-old Ingrid have a similar luster. Love the Milne poem (if we could only be..) Happy Birthday Ingrid!

  6. What a lovely webpage you have. On this cloudy spring morning it was a joy to see your tulips and your haiku. I have been writing haiku, on and off, for over a year. I'd like to strike up a relationship with you somehow to encourage me to continue. Please let me know if you're interested,

  12. Linda, I agree that writing (word weaving) is such a pleasurable act that time floats away. Your tulip photo and haiku are great companions to each other. Happy Birthday to Ingrid (as sweet as she is in the photo).
