SOLC17 19/31 Connecting to the Two Writing Teachers community for Day Nineteen of Thirty-One of the Slice of Life Challenge in March. Thank you, Stacey, Beth, Deb, Betsy, Lanny, Kathleen, Lisa, and Melanie.
I thought it would be fun to share a group game I used to have fun with in my classroom. It's called "I've Never. . ." Each player receives five (or three if there's less time) toothpicks. Each time the player HAS done the shared action, she or he must forfeit a toothpick. The one or you can choose to have three who still have at least one toothpick are the winners! You can time it and those left are the winners. We used to play at the end of the day when there was about thirty minutes or less left in the day. The class became very creative as they became more experienced!
Want to play? What would you share that you've never. . .? As you see from my list, this can get silly. And I adjusted after knowing about the students in my class too. This time, I've adjusted knowing that adults are "playing."

gone snow tubing (even here in Colorado)
eaten sushi
worn prescription glasses
read Moby Dick
been on a cruise
had a king-sized bed
traveled to Asia
watched "Game of Thrones"

I was out early on as "Game of Thrones" is the only thing on the list I haven't 'done'. We use to play this at summer camp. You could only say something that you had done. You learn loads about people.

I lost three toothpicks! We've played this game at faculty meetings as an icebreaker, standing up until we were "knocked out" by an experience. Fun way to get to know people!
What fun to hear that you've played it, but reversed. Yes, you do learn a lot, and have a good time with it, too.

I lost all five of my toothpicks. I can imagine my students going nutso over this game.
I only lost two toothpicks! But I was not sure about the king-size bed...I've never had one, though we always enjoy getting one when we travel in hotels...

Very fun game--this would be such a fun idea for early in the year as a get-to-know-you or later in the year as a get-to-know-you-better.
Yes, others have said they've played it with staff at the beginning of the year. My class played it often, and that made it a challenge because they had to try to find new things for the challenges. Thanks, Elisabeth.
