#MustReadin2021 - Hopeful for Better!

Carrie Gelson at There's a Book for That, started the #MustRead community, and it's been a pleasure and a reminder to check my list to see what I really MUST read before the book, again, slips to the bottom of the ever-growing stack. I am grateful to Leigh Anne Eck at A Day in the Life and Cheriee Weichel at Library Matters who are following Carrie's lead and hosting this year! Thanks so much for doing this, Leigh Anne and Cheriee!

You can find all the link-ups at Leigh Anne's post - link above

I didn't finish my list from last year. I've added only one book from it to this year and it is Elizabeth Acevedo's With The Fire on High. And I have chosen to start this year with it. I own all twelve books in this collage below, some I bought, some I won early in the year. I don't know why I've skipped by them, am sure I will love each one! That's the way 2020 seemed to go, aimless scattered reading, sometimes reading three or more books at once, not always finishing them. But it is my goal to read these this year, maybe one a month, maybe more? I already have a second stack of books from the second part of the year that I also want to read, not sharing, but they are there, in my library, waiting! Here we go into a new time, one in which I want to be sure I read more books from diverse authors, one I want to be sure I pick up a book that someone recommends, and one I choose that just seems to fit my life right then.

Remember I work at a used bookstore with co-workers and customers also recommending their recent "great reads". My list grows longer there, too, in addition to reading all your posts, and ones on Monday with the #IMWAYR group, on twitter, etc. It's a pleasure that I won't whine about. How could we ever tire of learning about good books?

I love this Anna Quindlen quote: "“I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.”

Happy Reading Everyone!

  1. I've only read one, Echo Mountain, but please read it after you read With the Fire on High. I checked out Show Me a Sign, but didn't get to it. I picked up Prairie Lotus from the library this past week. Listening to When Stars Are Scattered right now.
I so identified to these words from your post: "...aimless scattered reading, sometimes reading three or more books at once, not always finishing them."
Hoping to find more focus in my reading life during 2021.
    Thanks for sharing this.

  3. Echo Mountain should have been on my list because I have it, but it's at school and I devised my list from books I had at home. I'll add it. Always so many, too many, good books to read. Thanks for keeping me looking for new ones.

  4. I put Superman on my #MustRead list too. You have some really awesome titles there and a few that I didn't know about. That's one of the reasons I like doing this challenge. ;)

  5. Those are some mighty fine books you have place on your #MustRead2021 list. And thank you for posting about this. I don't do challenges anymore, but this sounds like something I would like to participate in. I wish you a very Happy New Year which I hope will be better than the last four, and look forward to reading more of your wonderful poetry.

  6. Hi Linda! I'm so happy to be part of this community again. I missed it! SOOO many great books on your list! I've read 6 of them - just finished We Dream of Space and it was one of my favorites of the year! I think Echo Mountain has a chance at the Newbery, but there is stiff competition! And, oh, The One and Only Bob - heart, heart, heart! If you loved the Little House books, Prairie Lotus will mean a lot to you. Park's explanation of her inspiration is amazing. I really want to read The Black Friend. I wish I had put it on my list. Oh well. I'll still read it. :-)

  7. Hi Linda,
It looks like you have a fabulous reading year ahead of you. I have loved many of these. Don't miss With The Fire On High. I also enjoyed Clap When You Land. Superman Smashes the Clan knocked my socks off. I wept reading We Dream of Space.
    Happy reading in 2021!

    1. Thus far I am loving With The Fire on High, Cheriee & I know I will enjoy all the others, too. It's that Pandemic year that threw me off reading them in the first place. Thanks!

  9. Hi Linda! It's so good to get back to creating reading plans! I so agree with your "aimless, scattered reading." 2020 was a difficult one to get going> Echo Mountain is one I am looking forward to reading. I also have The Captive Kingdom on my shelf! Thanks for joining in on the reading fun!

  10. Glad you were able to find time to start Echo Mountain this week, as I really enjoyed it. It took me a while to get into The Captive Kingdom, but the main character pulls me in, as always. I loved reading the rest of your list for ideas.

    1. More than one book is hard to get into, but then I find myself flying through to see what's next. I've loved Nielsen's books in the past, look forward to this one, too. Thanks for the tip and coming by, Aaron!
