More postcard hugs and a snowy song for Jan! I read on the list that Jan called for music and thought Tuesday and Wednesday about what I could "sing" about that would be "approved". Then, shoveling on Wednesday morning, I kept hearing the scrape back and forth of the snow shovel and had an idea. Sing along if you wish! Thanks for the idea, Jan!
The ALA awards last Monday are always exciting, and even more exciting this year is that two Poetry Friday people won awards! Congratulations to Irene Latham, with Karim Shamsi-Basha & Yuko Shimizu, whose book, The Cat Man of Aleppo, won a Caldecott Honor. Also, Congratulations to Laura Shovan, with Saadia Faruqi , whose book, A Place At The Table, was named a Sydney Taylor Notable book. Both books are very special!

Linda, thank you for mentioning my poetry postcard. I was toying around with evolve as my one word but I moved to begin since it has such significance for me this year. What a fabulous collection. I loved your 'scraping out a winter tune' - because scraping is a gritty word for a snow shovel sound, but it also resonates for music. Sometimes our songs are raspy and require effort - but sing anyway!

Linda, your postcard poems are concise delights. They do indeed sing. I particularly enjoyed your winter notes as it evoked memories of my first ever morning in the US all those years ago. When we woke to snow and I got to help clear the pavement of my friend's house.

Snow shovel singing...hmmmm picture book? I just got Becky's postcard too. I love how she Made them. What a great idea that I'm totally going to steal--erm, emulate! I am in the process of making our shovels ready for Sunday and Monday (this means finding them). We have winter weather coming and I'm excited! Happy Poetry Friday.

Thanks for featuring the new year's cards. I got Becky's this week and want to know how she made them. I do wish for snow on occasion but I don't think I would like shoveling much. Glad you could find a sweet tune to make the task easier.
I don't like the big storms, but don't mind the little ones like this last one. We have more coming Thursday & so far they don't know how much. Yes, Becky's cards are unique! She needs to let us in on her secret! Thanks, Margaret!
