#Poetry Friday - Reflecting

Poetry Friday is with Catherine Flynn HERE on her website, Reading to the Core. She's sharing the process and the poem from her group "The Inklings". Be sure to see what Catherine wrote from the challenge Heidi Mordhorst gave them. Thanks for hosting, Catherine!

Hooray! Editor Bridget Magee's anthology, Two Truths and A Fib  is now available! I do not have my copy yet, but you can watch the trailer HERE! I am proud to have some poems in this book along with others whose names you will recognize. Many thanks to Bridget for the idea, the opportunity, and for all the work in the production! Watch for Bridget's blog each day where she is posting about an individual poet and their work.

I'm kind of cheating this week because I'm sharing a poem I wrote earlier in the week and then shared on FB & Instagram. It was a serendipitous moment. You'll see. Our winter days these recent weeks have been a challenge. I know that others had more snow than we here in Denver but it's been cold and a challenge to walk and avoid slipping. Unlike most of the time here in Denver, the snow has not melted; little has changed since I wrote.

And, my family's Christmas is not over yet. I had a lovely Christmas Day with my daughter and family, have had lots of work at the bookstore this week, and Friday will be prepping for ALL of the family to be together for a day to celebrate Christmas. My son and family (who couldn't make it December 25th are coming in to stay at our townhouse in the Keystone area, to ski! We'll be together on Saturday. Happy Holiday is something I can say again!

And to all of you, Happy, Happy New Year!

Shivery, shivery, winter's delivery,
trying for cheery, but already weary,
of snowflakes and ice, not always so nice!

  1. Enjoy the time with your family! We haven't had much snow, but we did experience some of the coldest cold I've ever felt right before Christmas. Now we're back to mud season. I love the rhymes in your poems --shivery indeed!

  2. Linda, Happy Holidays are still a wonderful event in your family. It is great when the happiness continues. We are also celebrating family. This weekend is my sister's birthday and Monday is my Little Aurora's 3rd Birthday party. My daughter bought a Santa Suit for my husband so he can become the main character at the Lil' Christmas party. I love hearing about your family stories and your poem is delightful because I know how low temperatures, blowing winds, and ice and snow can cause problems. Winter is mild here but the temps are dropping.

  5. I like this poem...and cheating? Bah! No, it's making good use of a good poem. I didn't see it on instagram. So, it's new to. me here. I'm so glad you and your family will all be together for the holiday AND skiing. That's wonderful. Enjoy every moment. I hope it's not TOO shivery while you're together.

  7. Thanks for the shout out, Linda! And when it comes to shivery poetry, commiserating on all platforms is necessary (and spreads the warmth). Enjoy your family time! :)

  8. Isn't it funny how, from moment to moment, nature reflects our moods? I love the gray-green weary tree... I literally just stepped away to fill my coffee this morning, and the morning sun briefly peeked through snow-clouds. Firs were basking in golden rays; icicles were dripping from their needles. As I ran for my camera, the sun disappeared and the entire scene went gray. I'm glad you were able to capture your tree's moment in both picture and words for us.

  9. I love how in your post you're stoking and sharing the warmth of connections and your busy, productive, creative life and how this contrasts with the chill of winter. Clever rhyming, too! Enjoy your time with family!

  11. Oh, cute poem. Sorry I missed it on Insta. (And sorry that the shivery ice is not so nice. I can kind of imagine why. Though it always looks so delightful!)

  12. Lovely poem--reminds me of Eve Merriam! So glad you're getting to have everyone together for a day. I'm looking forward to diving deep into TT&AF soon, but I have Cybils reading to do and a lot of unpacking to figure out still!
