Poetry Friday - Loving November

It's Poetry Friday, and a new month! She's HERE at her blog. And, not only does she share about her new book, On A Flake-Flying Day, she has a new special poem about a leaf and flakes flying! Thanks for hosting, Buffy. (Buffy, I wrote this "before" I read your post! We had our first snow also this week.)

When I am sad and worried about the world, I find solace outside, as I imagine Buffy must, too. As some of you have shared in the recent weeks, autumn trees are a treasure, no matter the leaf-raking, sometimes the cold and snow, they bring a beauty that keeps us in awe every year. That same old tune never gets old.

I also want to share three of my favorite "older" fall books. Plus, don't miss Buffy's On A Gold-Blooming Day, out just last year!

Happy November, a month for being grateful!

  2. Yes, as much beauty at the end of a cycle as at the beginning. And since some of this leaf litter finds its way eventually into birds' nests, it becomes part of the next cycle too. <3

  3. Oh-- I love that "at the last of a cycle" line. Looking out the window at the few faded leaves still clinging to branches, it really hits home. Thank you for sharing!

  4. Yes, how beauty lingers! I'm trying to remember to notice it every day. Spending time outside helps, even when the snow flies!

  5. Yes, that same tune never gets old! It's as though we rediscover it every year, that wonder. Love that crunch!

  6. ooh! Thank you for the PB recommendations! I'm thinking that autumn and November seem to get short-shrift... We wax eloquent of color and leaf, then rush on to note the dying and dormancy and gratitude holidays. So I will look to go revel in stories and poetry to extend this period of renewal! Thank you, Linda!

  7. Thank you for the shout-outs, Linda! I have indeed been enjoying the beauty that lingers, the step's crunch. This year I've been aiming my camera down like you did, seeing the colors that linger.

  8. Thanks everyone. I've been out walking, back home and then raking leaves from porch and patio. The rest stay on lawn & beds. We have a leaf drop that gives back compost in the spring, so another trip there today. Most trees are bare but a few are still holding on!

  9. Yes, Linda, November is the month for gratitude. I am always grateful for your blog posts and comments. I am seeing a new side of autumn this year in Virginia. The colors are full of fire and beauty. My new tree, ruby fall shedded its beautiful heart shaped leaves that touched my inner soul. I love seeing the leaves in piles or scattered. Each one adds to the magnificence of this season. Happy Fall. Your leaves photo and poem - beauty lingers!
