It's Poetry Friday, and Jama Rattigan is hosting HERE on her blog, Jama's Alphabet Soup and celebrating her 18th blogiversary! Congratulations, Jama, and thanks for hosting on this special day!
Well, It's been a while since posting and I'm excited to be back, but most excited to read all your posts. I want to try to catch up a bit with everyone's lives and spectacular creativity, which I have so missed.
I didn't have the pleasure of a trip to the beach this year. I'm sad to miss the ocean, have been somewhere "on a beach" every summer for a lot of years. There was just too much going on for the family to get together for a week. When I saw this book at the library, it filled me up a little. Esther Freud has written the story of a family who lives at the beach in poetry, and it's about year-round pleasures, illustrated by Emma Chinnery, who shows the joys of every time of the year, even when there's snow on the sand!
Looks like a special book, it reminds me of a beach on Cape Cod which was enchanting, thanks for sharing it Linda. Sorry you missed your summer beach travels. I'm hoping to make a day trip to the Michigan Dunes with my family, but we still haven't found an open date for all… Presently, I'm posting occasionally due to my teaching load. Glad we crossed paths this week, thanks! ☺️ 🐝 🌻
ReplyDeleteIt is a challenge to get all together, I know, Michelle. I'm glad you're busy with the teaching, yet it means other things must go. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteNice to see you back, Linda! I'm sorry about your beach week. Love that photo of your daughter and her kite. My biggest news you missed is that my son's wedding is coming up! Not long now. 💗
ReplyDeleteOh, best wishes to the couple and you for the big day coming, Tabatha. I'm happy to know about it!
DeleteHello Linda! So good to see you back and thank you for the kites, which always bring joy! xo
ReplyDeleteYes, the kite is always packed, Irene! We love that flying at the beach!
DeleteGlad to see you here! I'm sorry you didn't get to the beach this year, we didn't either. Thank you for sharing this book. I love the page you shared and will look for the book next time I go to the library.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda, I hope you love the book, too! It helped take away some of my sadness from the beauty & memories it brought.
DeleteSo happy to see you back!! Thanks for sharing about Enchanted Beach, will have to look for it. Love the pic of your daughter flying the kite.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama, the kite is a mainstay for us!
DeleteI love that the book takes us to the beach, not just on sunny days but in all weather. Going to look that one up.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Cathy, imagine all those days! Thanks!
DeleteLinda, I am so happy that you are back with us. I missed reading your blog posts. I am sorry that you did not enjoy the beach this summer with your family. The book you shared is one that I would love since I adore being at the beach. When living in Long Island, we went to the beach every season. When cold we walked the boardwalk. I think I asked you if you were going to the NCTE Convention? There is a Poetry Friday get together on the first night. Can you please send me your phone number so I can call you?
ReplyDeleteI remember all those wonderful pictures you shared from your beach, Carol. It always looked like great times. No, I'm not going to the convention, but several have told me about the PF meet! I'm hoping to be there. Will be in touch!
DeleteThis looks like a lovely book. I love the idea of the beach "through the seasons, blue or gray." Thanks for sharing, and welcome back!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is great to imagine being by the beach all year long!
DeleteTravel through books is real! I'm sorry you couldn't be on the beach this summer too. Your poetry is full of all kinds of goodness from those trips. But, I'm glad for the book rec...those illustrations! Wow...so close to your real life photo. It's a good week when I can pop into this blog and see that you are reading and writing. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for remembering, Linda. We have had some special times all through the years! The book is terrific!
DeleteHi Linda, It's good to read a post from you! I've missed seeing them. I love the beach, therefore, I would love this book! Our beach days have become a constant during the winter when we escape to the USVI for few weeks. I know we are fortunate to be able to go, and I hope you can get in a beach vacation some time soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol, I do remember your 'escapes' during the year. And, I hope you return to read this because my search engines won't let me open your post, says it's not secure. Unfortunately, it gives no real reason. I've tried three separate ones, all block you. I hope you're doing well!
DeleteI'm sorry for no beach this summer, Linda :>( Thanks for sharing this book--I love the spread you shared. I'll look for the book. Also, I'm going to NCTE this fall in Denver. Hoping we might be able to grab a soda or something together!
ReplyDeleteI've relished the times you've shared your beautiful lake, Laura. I walk to a small one and love the water there, though it isn't the beach, of course. I'm told there is a PF get together during NCTE, so hopefully everything will work so I can be there with all of you! Thanks for coming by!
DeleteENCHANTED BEACH looks, well, *enchanting.* :D It's been too long since I've been to a beach. Thanks for beach-visit-by-proxy, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend my daughters found a beach near New Orleans to take their kids to. I was not with them, but the pictures are fun to see!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to hear from both of you about your "beach" lives, Karen & Margaret! Thank you!
