It's Poetry Friday, and Laura Purdie Salas is hosting HERE on her website! Despite various challenges, Laura's also sharing her new book, Flurry, Float, and Fly!, coming out next week, plus a villanelle reminding us of "The Sounds of Winter". It's especially nice since we in Colorado have heard almost none of them. They are late to the winter party! Be sure to drop by to see all she is sharing, and check others who are sharing, too. Thanks for hosting today, Laura!
My family seems to have a slide of birthdays, from April to this month, when my daughter has a big birthday next week!
My husband's birthday was also this month!
Really, the reason I shared the above is to celebrate birthdays, and this time, my daughter's. But even as I have had many, I still look forward to each one, appreciate the birthday wishes, and consider the day MY special day. I hope you do as well.
This began as I wrote above, but also with a poem that feels quite serendipitous because this week, it literally fell out of a book I was looking through, "yes", by Ogden Nash. I just found the book at the used bookstore where I volunteer, and knew I would love his humor, lately a needed boost, right?
Happy Birthday, with smiles to each of you, no matter how long it will be until your next one! 🎂

Thank you for this poem (love that it fell at your feet) and yes, I need some humor these days!!!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Nash poem -- much appreciated cheer up. :) Doesn't the art look like Quentin Blake's? November is a good birthday month -- my dad, BIL, Len's and mine. :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom's birthday was in November, too! Thank you for sharing the Ogden Nash poem; "un-birthdays" is especially great.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mona, Jama, & Susan. It's terrific to hear of more November birthdays!
ReplyDeleteI'm just about to make a birthday card for my daughter-in-law! Very timely, Linda :) I agree with Jama that the illustrator looks like Quentin Blake.
ReplyDeleteHope this will help make a good one, Tabatha. As for the Quentin Blake illustration, when I searched, it looks as if the poem came from Nash's "Custard & Company", illlustrated by Blake, but that is not the book I found, & with the poem. Whoever owned it must have put it there as a favorite!
DeleteWhat a fun poem Linda, Ogden Nash is a fav of mine, and yes we can all use a boost–Tuesday was a good boost too! Thanks for sharing, and a Very Happy Belated Birthday Greeting to You!!! 🎉🌸🥳
ReplyDeleteNash is so clever, and makes me laugh with every poem. Thanks for the wishes, Michelle. Back to you, too, whenever your birthday happens!
DeleteOh gosh, I love that last line! Happy un-Birthday time, Linda!
ReplyDeleteA slightly longer poem for Ogden Nash with the readily identifiable illustrations of Quentin Blake. A Birthday Beauty, Linda. What a great find.
ReplyDeleteLove that ending. Thanks for sharing Linda, and sending hugs for family birthdays of those still here and those no longer with us. November is one of the few months we DON'T have a family birthday, so I'll be putting my celebratory energy toward Christmas prep :>)
ReplyDeleteI've got a big one coming up, and after it passes, I will remember to treasure all the days that are "not so un-." Happy Special Days to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteThank you all! It's always fun to celebrate, even on the 'un' days!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! We just finished a big birthday month for our family - there are 6 in October!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lot of celebrating, but memories made! Thank you, Rose!
DeleteLOL. Good ole Ogdan Nash. He's always good for a giggle. Isn't it funny how there's a bunch of birthdays all lined up in a family? Ours is like that too. We have a birthday palooza in January and then again in July. It's fun. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteLove hearing that you have those paloozas! Thanks!
DeleteOh, yes, Linda, a much-needed boost! Thank you! Happy birthday to your daughter and remembering your husband this month too. ❤️ And enjoy all the un-days until your next birthday! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the wishes, Karen! Thank you!
DeleteHi Linda, this is Janice. I often say I don’t count birthdays anymore but that’s not true. I am grateful for every one of you. I hope your granddaughter has a happy one.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janice, yes, it is good to be grateful!
DeleteWhat a great surprise to have the Nash poem fall out the book. Happy birthday celebrations.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jone!
DeleteLinda, sending happy birthday wishes for all your family even if some days are unbirthday. I am a Thanksgiving birthday so that times is always a double treat. My family makes a big deal about birthdays. Fancy cakes find their way into the surprise and sweet cards, too. Thanks for sending happiness our way with Ogden Nash.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear about your big birthday celebrations, Carol! My parents' anniversary was the 24th. Is that your birthday, too? Wishing you a lovely one!
