It's a particularly nostalgic week for me because I'm completing the sale of our family cabin, one we bought in the early 80's. Most of these pictures are very early, my son and daughter are about six and ten. The cabin is a leasehold, meaning we rented the land in a national forest from the government and own the cabin. The people we bought it from built it over several summers, and we added a loft for sleeping and some different furniture, etc. It is a primitive cabin. We hauled our own water, used candles and oil lamps, bathed in an old washtub with heated water from a huge teapot if we were there longer than a weekend and I cooked on what is called a sheepherder's wood stove. It all worked fine, and the best was exploring the woods, climbing a few nearby, not-too-high mountains, and playing in streams. I will miss going but have sold it to a young family who are loving it all over again and that makes me happy.
