Poetry Friday - Spring Arrives with Snow

Michelle Kogan at her blog of the same name is hosting this week. She's bringing spring poems from the latest edition of Today's Little Ditty plus a bonus from her, too.

In these challenging days, I hope each of you keep good health and find ways to share some goodness in your communities. I am aware that many of you are online helping with ideas for children who are out of school, which is wonderful. There are many kinds of needs that I am becoming aware of each day. It's a sad, tough time.

On the first day of spring, a snowstorm blew in. Here's the view from my desk!  It was near 70 yesterday so I went to the store to do some work in our inventory. We closed the store indefinitely last Saturday, but some of us will continue to do a little work. I'm glad I got to stay home today!

At the end of January, 2019, on this post, I shared a very old book donated to the bookstore that was falling apart & couldn't be offered for sale. Once in a while, I bring it out again to read some of the old poems. This time, I found one without an author's name, but feels just perfect for this interesting spring day! Surely after this rain, then snow, violets will be along soon! Here are the book and the poem I wrote last time.

what others held on laps to read.
Attend the poets, accord encores.
When words are read, they live again.

Celebrating Three New Things

Celebrating today with Ruth Ayres and others who share.

I'm sure that many of you are not ready to celebrate snow (or more snow) but today I woke to our first big snow of all the winter! It's been a strange winter, was 70 degrees last Thursday. Mostly I've been wearing light coats! It is a wonderful thing to have this moisture, and it's supposed to snow all day!
Saturday was a warmer day and two things filled my heart. He's off to finish his senior year at Swarthmore but emailed to say he wanted to have some time together before leaving. This is a former student with whom I keep in touch. We had a couple of hours to talk about what he's doing, thinking, what his plans for the rest of the year are and possibly future, too. We exchanged new ideas and book titles along with old memories. It's a beautiful memory added!

Celebrating Some Fine Moments

Celebrating with Ruth Ayres and others today.  It's a good thing to celebrate the pieces of our lives.

Celebrating writing and art and snow!
Many of you know I'm writing a haiku a day, Mary Lee Hahn's #haikuforhealing challenge started last year in December and now perhaps a tradition. It is one I love. It's that quiet contemplation in the early morning that is so good for waking up. Here's a recent favorite, really a 'haiga' because it's written to an image.

I shopped in a favorite shopping district last Monday. It happens to be on the street where my husband ran his store, so I've walked this street many times. It holds good memories. My favorite shop is The Artisan Center, not all local, but with all original pieces by artists. The shop and the area are filled with beautiful and whimsical art, one of which is this lion, whose bold, royal look pleases me a lot.
Though I do like warm weather, we've gone two months without moisture, so waking to this "coverlet" of snow one morning felt like a big gift. We were in the fifties again today, cold tomorrow, then warm, etc. They say that winter is coming, on Thursday to be exact, and we might have more snow! Happy Holidays to everyone. May your days be bright and if possible, all your gardens be white.

Hurrah It's Poetry Friday

Robyn Hood Black is hosting Poetry Friday this week. Visit her and all the others who link up at Life on the Deckle Edge. Today Robyn has Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong visiting her site, and we've all been invited to the party!

Still writing haiku and haiku-related poems. Mother Nature has rewarded me with a variety of topics, mostly spring flowers, insects, birds, and YES, snow! As I'm typing, the report says :  heavy snow/rain mix, through Friday.

Winter Chalking

Betsy Hubbard, a teacher who manages two blogs, Teaching Young Writers and I Think In Poems, and writes for Two Writing Teachers, also started a tradition at the end of the month last year sometime where some of us link up after having "chalked" a poem on our sidewalks or driveways somewhere.  I've been using a chalk app, but today, with snow falling, I thought I'd take a picture and use Skitch to share a chalky poem.  Here's the result of chalking in the snow!
