I am living my slice this week because my grandson is here visiting. I'll share about our time and adventures together next week, but for now, it's the end of the month and time for Chalk-a-bration!
Betsy, at Teaching Young Writers, (whom I met during the Tuesday slices) has begun a tradition of what she calls a Chalk-a-Bration where poets write poems and chalk them for others to see. Check out what everyone does today for this celebration. August arrives tomorrow and with it our last summer days of some relaxing, some preparing, some "oh mys, where did the summer go?" Here is my poem in tribute to still summer... Thank you Betsy for your idea and for continuing it!

Fun poem! How did I miss chalk-a-bration days? I might try it even on a "Not Chalk-a-bration Day".
Betsy (& her husband) started it back in April, maybe? It is fun, & rather relaxing to put the poem out there for others to see, at least for a while. Thanks Donna.
Still Summer! And I love your line - "I'm on vacation, can't complain." Even though I'm starting to gear up for the school year, I'm still squeezing in time for celebrating summer every week.

"Flowers burst in blooming beat." I love how that line looks in my head. Our hydrangeas finally started to bloom and although they are much more modest this year, I still enjoy their blooming beat. Thanks for celebrating with me. The poem is a perfect summary of summer's offering.
This is a great summer poem Linda! The rhythm and tone are so relaxing. It makes me want to grab a book and go read! Summer is slipping away so quickly...I want to hold on tightly to whatever is left!

Your poem about reading in the shade sipping lemonade makes me want to abandon my computer and grab the novel I'm reading. Hmmm... Maybe I will (shortly).

This sounds like fun! I am thinking it would be fun, too, to do with kids, maybe even during April Poetry month. I am wondering where you wrote it. If I did this, I would want to sit somewhere (maybe in the shade with a lemonade, and watch people's reactions…Have fun with your grandson!
Okay, this makes me REALLY want to try a chalk poem...
This time, it was actually at the entrance to my house because amazingly it was sprinkling when I wrote, so had to be under a roof. Usually I am on the driveway. It would be fun for your students I know! Thanks Carol. Hope your college son is doing well.

It's August. It's almost school time. This could give a reason to complain but it gives a bigger reason to enjoy the summer days where we can still relax, read and drink lemonade. I find that the little flower you drew adds more summer spirit to your poem.
