My son & family are coming in for the long weekend. Thus, I won't get to reading & commenting so fast this week! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend however you can. Remember those who gave their lives for us all.
I have a few books by these extraordinary people below we've been blessed to have in our lives. Yet as I looked for some of them, I realized that I have only a few left, mostly because I've bought them again. My grandchildren have them because first, my children had them, and then, kept them for their children. It's quite wonderful to think that they, too, will pass them on. No more need be said.

I'm smiling knowing you will be with family this weekend. Enjoy every moment. What a lovely way to remember these two beautiful artists...buying their books and giving them to the perfect reader and then buying them again. I'm enjoying family too.
What a beautiful tribute to two great illustrators that will always remain in children's hearts. Bleeding hearts as your central focus image is an amazing connection. Goodbyes are bittersweet but you connect it to nature in a way to tributize these greats in literature. Have a wonderful weekend with your family.

Yes, our bleeding hearts for these two gifts to children's books. Thank you for this warm and lovely tribute to them. Yes, it is a joy to have books passed down through the generations. What a gift, which an even greater gift is the love of reading that is spread as those books are read and shared. Priceless.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful bleeding heart. Mine died off a few years ago when we had a week of very sub-zero temps (-30 or more). I'll have to get another. They are so beautiful, and so perfect for goodbyes.

Lovely poem about two icons. And really, the best tribute to folks we've lost like Eric & Lois is to continue sharing their work, as you've done with your grandchildren!
Here's what I just shared on Matt's post about these artists: "Thank you for sharing this – both of these artists were a big part of my kids’ childhood reading. My son (now 18) and I were laughing this week about when he was little, and crying in frustrating over a drawing that wasn’t turning out the way he wanted. He said he just wanted to be able to draw like Eric Carle. I tried to console him by telling him that Eric Carle had been drawing his WHOLE LIFE! 'Well,' said my tiny son plaintively, 'SO HAVE I!'"
