Final #MustReadin2017 Update

It's been a few years that a group has joined together to choose a list of "MustReads", books that drop to the bottom of the stack for some unknown reasons, books we really want to read! It's a reading challenge led by Carrie Gelson at There is a Book for That. It's both fun and frustrating that new books appear that I want to read first, but the list keeps calling. Everyone chooses their own specific reading goals. I post the list in the top bar of the blog. Most years I add books that again were not read, and then add new ones, too.

This year I chose twenty-six books and read sixteen of them, enjoyed those I read, will move some to a new list soon! You can access my reviews on Goodreads.
It's hard to choose favorites because I enjoyed each one of these. I was glad to catch up with Alma Flor Ada's books because she finds wonderful ways to include cultural experiences in her stories that can teach kids about other's lives. I love books that help kids see ways of healing in a tragedy, so thoroughly enjoyed When Friendship Followed Me Home, The Seventh Most Important Thing, and Glory Be. And I love Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book and adored the re-telling in a graphic novel. Parched showed frightening circumstances that were overcome and of course, The March Trilogy included those terrible times in the Civil Rights movement. Others not mentioned, awesome too!

Thanks to everyone for helping me find good books through your recommendations! Wishing you a Happy New Year of reading!

#MustReadIn2017Update

Several years ago, Carrie Gelson of There's A Book for That and Maria Selke of Maria's Melange started us down the path of giving love to all the books that came before, the ones we have on shelves, but still haven't read! There is a small group of us who began sharing lists titled #MustReadIn2014.  My list is now #MustReadIn2017, a few from the previous lists. You can see #MustReadIn2016 above, too.
Thanks for hosting, Carrie!  Find the latest group update HERE!

Here are the books I've read, and am now starting the graphic novel of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. I've loved this story, love all Gaiman's work, so bought this a long time ago. And guess what? It's kept sinking to the bottom of the pile. This time, I will read it, number 14 on my list of 26. You can see the entire list above on the bar under the header.

The best ones, the ones you should not miss: all of them! If you want to read more about each, check my Goodreads reviews. I placed them on the list because I read the many reviews by the people who share the books they read for the Monday Reading meme hosted by Kellee Moye, Ricki Ginsberg and Jen Vincent or Horn Book or on Goodreads, etc. And I already know that you love them, so I should, too! Thank you all!

#MustReadIn2017 #NPM17 - Sharing Books & A Poem

Several years ago, Carrie Gelson of There's A Book for That and Maria Selke of Maria's Melange started us down the path of giving love to all the books that came before, the ones we have on shelves, but still haven't read! "A Poem begins with a lump in the throat."
                                                                   ~Robert Frost

Perhaps we can say that about all the books we read?

April is  #NPM17 - National Poetry Month.

    Poetic things of interest:
Irene Latham's  Progressive Poem's schedule is on the page above.
If you'd like to see what everyone is doing for Poetry Month, look HERE at Jama Rattigan's post at Jama's Alphabet Soup.

My goal for Poetry Month: TINY THINGS. My point of view may surprise you, but I'm excited to write, share, and read how everyone writes to meet their special goals for celebrating poetry month.

Here is my poem today with a connection to "MUSTS".

My Tiny List

I retired a while ago,
no need for ‘musts’,
my life is slow.
The list is small,
it doesn’t grow.
Time to read
the overflow.

MY "MUST READ" re-cap so far this year. I become so excited when I hear about a new book, especially by a favorite author. It's hard to pull a book that's been sitting on a shelf too long unloved and start reading. This particular group has helped, and I've read some beautiful books since the new year began. Out of 26 books, I've read 7! I'm slowly reading Mary Oliver's Upstream, and just got The Meaning of Maggie from the library. I own most, so I don't have to wait to begin any. Here's a little bit about the ones completed. If you see one in the first list that you adored, let me know.

#Must ReadIn2017

Carrie Gelson of There's A Book for That hosts a #MustReadIn2017 group at the beginning of the year of those who continue to create a list of those lonely books on shelves or lists that we are excited about when bought or listed, then ignore, or find others that call more loudly.  See the above link to Carrie's blog to find out more!
Everyone has reasons for NOT reading, but a few years ago, it was thought that we should pay more attention to those we KNOW will be good, yet ignored because there are many others being published NOW! I'll put my list above with the one from 2016, and will try hard to do better with it than I did last year! I know that "too many books, not enough time" is something we all say, but here is a new year, and a list of books that need a little love. Great widget for us, Carrie!
