#Poetry Friday - Poems In Celebration

It's Poetry Friday with a lot of celebrating on its way, all gathering at Life on The Deckle Edge with Robyn Hood Black! Thanks for hosting this special day, Robyn.

April is  #NPM18 - National Poetry Month.
There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it. - Gustave Flaubert

Last Friday, when I shared Amy Ludwig VanDerwater's new book, With My Hands: Poems for Making ThingsAmy and Clarion HMH offered to send a copy of this new book to a lucky commenter of that post! Here's the picture of my drawing and the lucky winner!

Congratulations, Buffy Silverman - send me your address and
I'll pass it on!
Of interest:  See the page on the bar above for the Progressive Poem's schedule of poets, hosted by Irene Latham at Live Your Poem.
And, see what many are doing for Poetry Month, by looking HERE at Jama Rattigan's post at Jama's Alphabet Soup.

My goal for Poetry MonthA haiku diary that may include other forms related to haiku, like haibun, haiga. monoku or renga. My first poem speaks of why I am handwriting the poems.

Here’s a second poem gift to unwrap, meant for that special person:

Today, We’re all “Traveling The Blue Road”  "World Make Way"

All The World’s A Stage” Today
                               for Lee Bennett Hopkins

His books are “Jumping Off Library Shelves
because he now can shout “I Am The Book”!
Over 100 books reveal his mantra:
Don’t You Turn Back” with “Me! A Book of Poems”.
Side by Side” with Lee includes loads of “Small Talk” with“Best Friends”,
Happily, we all discover his “Wonderful Words” in “Days to Celebrate”,
Sing Hey for Christmas Day”, “Good Morning To You, Valentine”,
Beat The Drum, Independence Day Has Come”, “Hannukah Lights” and
Ragged Shadows: Poems of Halloween Night.”
As we celebrate, there are no worries either about being fed well
with “Potato Chips and A Slice of the Moon”--Yum!
We are often “Munchingon “Pterodactyls and Pizza”
as we sing a “Lullaby and Kisses Sweet” song together
while learning about “America at War”, “Nasty Bugs”,
Pups, Dogs, Foxes, and Wolves”, plus so many “People From Mother Goose”.
I could continue with more "Faces and Places", even with some "City Talk"
but will stop and say "Time to Shout: [with] Poems for you".

From “Home to Me” to Lee,
Happy Birthday!
                                    Linda Baie

  9. I adore both your gift poem and your Lee Bennett Hopkins tribute one as well. I have been thinking about birthday poems as I try to get a sewing project finished for my sister. I'm not sure if a poem would have been easier or not!

  13. I love the idea of growing haiku on lined pages, Linda. (They are like little flower buds, aren't they?) And even more so that you're using steno books—my favorite kind of pad. With Lee's vast number of collections, it's amazing that you and others can all find unique poems!

  14. I love, love, love your tribute to Lee. I can't think of a better gift than to promote his books. Because I teach high school, I feel out of the Lee loop, but I'm going to catch up and enlist my media specialist to help me. Bravo!
