Celebrating Small

Celebrating with Ruth Ayres at Discover Play Build.  and linking with others who share their celebrations, too. I am grateful to Ruth for helping us celebrate together!

"Just living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower." ~ Hans Christian Andersen

Everyone must know that the pleasure of my weeks includes my friends and family, most lately spending time with the grand-girls, once or more times a week with each one. But there are other things that keep my life happily traveling.

A small list of goodness:

  1. a poem that touches me
  2. smiles from others on my daily walk
  3. writing a poem
  4. one chickadee "dee-deeing" each morning
  5. starting a book I know is going to be a terrific story
  6. blooms on a houseplant
  7. an empty dishwasher
  8. clouds
  9. warm socks
  10. baking smells
  11. falling snow
  12. a letter in my mailbox
  13. early morning feelings that the day awaits
  14. the shapes of trees in winter
  15. Saturday celebrations
              Enough!

This list makes me think of the phrase, "stop and smell the roses." It should be changed to "stop and notice the celebrations of your life." Life is good!

Warm socks: love that celebration. I always put a warm sweatshirt on when it comes out of the dryer. Makes me happy :)

It's a pleasure to "notice", Jennifer. You've given me a metaphor for my week, a tapestry! Thanks!

Yes, it is, and you're right about "small the roses", one old phrase to keep close. Thanks, Elsie.

Your list reminds me of The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha. There are just so many simple things to celebrate in life!

There are chores that somehow I dislike a lot, and emptying the dishwasher is one. I'm not sure why, but there it stands! So, empty is a delight.

I'll need to look for the book, Lisa. Thanks!

Both of my grandmothers lived far away when I was growing up and I rarely saw them - I'm glad to live close to my mother and mother in law, so that if I one day have children, they'll get wonderful experiences like the ones you share!

Thank you Jane. I had the pleasure of wonderful grandparents, not so close, but I spent weeks with them in the summers, so I am trying to be a good one for my grandchildren. I hope your wishes come true!

I love lists of small things to celebrate. Your list is warm, calm and filled with joy. My list always includes a cup of tea. A bit of sunshine in winter is already a big thing.

Linda B said...

We mostly have sun, Terje, and feel lucky, but snow is coming so today is cloudy, time for cozy blankets & tea!
