April - Poetry Month - Number One

It's April. It's Poetry Month!

Remember to check out the list of what everyone is doing at Jama Rattigan's blog: Jama's Alphabet Soup.

And check on the Water Poem Project where every day, a poet is sharing a prompt connected to water, hosted and created by Laura Shovan!

Plus! Check each day for the added line to the Progressive Poem, created by Irene Latham, now hosted by Margaret Simon! Link is above!

           TIME TO CELEBRATE POETRY!

I'm taking a leap that I can manage this challenge I've given myself. A while ago I bought a
small box of tiny round wood circles. I've been playing around with how I can use them for something, and am planning to use the theme of CIRCLES for poetry month, poems & small sketches. I'm a little scared and as I wrote last Friday, a little scattered even though I am home and have so much time.
I am looking forward to reading everyone's posts. I'm sure I will love each one, knowing they're done during a time we've not lived before. Best wishes for continuing good health to you all!

Here's number one, a haiku:

out walking,
dandelions play greeter –
no Walmart now

  2. Love your project -- those wood circles are so cool and today's poem and sketch made me smile. Happy Poetry Month!! We're all scared and scattered these days, but we have each other for moral support.

    1. Yes, I imagine it will be a reflection of this time, Jane. How can I ignore what is happening? Thank you!

  5. Your haiku is so great, Linda. I love that your reference to Walmart greeters as dandelions. So much packed into so few words. Also, I look forward to your creative uses of your wooden circles. :)

    1. Thanks, Bridget, for some strange reason the few dandelions I've been seeing connected me to greeters. I don't go to Walmart & wonder if they still have them during this time.

  6. Oh, this one's absolutely perfect! The next time I'm out walking, I'll be sure to speak. I've loved seeing them on the hillside by the soccer/baseball field. I bet they've been wondering "Where have all the kids gone?"
Leave it to you to be artistic with your wood circles. I still remember peeking at your sketches in your notebook at All Write.

    1. Oh, Ramona, the dandelions appearing are making me so happy! I love that you are seeing lots, too. They are the first bee food, a good thing. Thank you. You are dear to remember that long ago time.

    1. Thanks, Carol, this was a fun one to imagine & do. I'm seeing circles in lots of places now - LOL! I hope you are doing well, saw one post where you said you could no longer visit your mom. I'm sorry, know you are missing each other a lot. Wishing it weren't so! Stay well!

  9. Those wooden circles are wonderful! I wouldn't have been able to resist them. What a clever idea to use them to inspire your poems for this month. It's still quite chilly here, so no dandelions yet. I'll be happy when I'm greeted by their sunshiny faces!

    1. We've finally had a good stretch of warmth, hence the dandelions & a few green baby leaves. Now snow again tomorrow evening, but not much. Wishing you some sunny warmth for the dandelions! Thanks, Catherine.

  10. I never would have thought of this, but what a wonderful way to combine sketching with writing. I have been trying to find a way to include more sketching in my notebook, but I honestly hadn't thought to combine it with writing in this way. I am excited to see where your circle journey will lead this month--certainly to many poems that you wouldn't have imagined writing! I loved the surprise of the comparison here.
