April - Poetry Month - Day Twenty-Eight - Free Choice # 2 - And Poetry Friday

Happy Poetry Month, where poems parade in the streets, run like rivers within our veins or settle in our hearts every.single,time.
I have been using this older book pictured left that follows the alphabet with one kind of prompt each day. I used this book on occasion in the classroom years ago, but never worked through it day by day, with deliberation! But now I finished the alphabet on Wednesday, April 26th with Z is for Zany and have arrived at the final four days - free choice!

And, it's Poetry Friday! Thanks, Ruth Hersey at There is no such thing as a God-forsaken Town here, for hosting!  Ruth is in Uganda so the time change will be interesting! She's celebrating her 17th blog birthday - Wow! And because that year calls for 'furniture', there are two poems that include chairs in her post! Congratulations, Ruth and thanks for hosting!
Remember to check out what's happening with the next Progressive Poem line today by Karin Fisher-Golton. See the entire list on the right. Only two days to go!

We had snow last week but it was "moisture". Yesterday was rainy - loved it! Thus, I believe our spring might have finally arrived with tulips and a few other blooms! We have the 70s predicted for the next week!

Thus, my poem plea!

Also, I keep forgetting to thank Linda Mitchell and Irene Latham for their poetry postcards and from Linda, an extra treat. They were a big lift during this winter that doesn't seem to want to say goodbye! Thanks much, Linda and Irene!

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I'm with you, Linda! Spring lifts our spirits like almost nothing else. Ours arrived in full force this week. All the trees are budded and the apple tree outside our front door is loaded with blossoms. I hope you don't have any more surprise snowfalls!

  2. Hooray for tulips! My first marker of spring is forsythia. I love the loud blast of yellow that lets me know spring is really on its way. I'm so glad you enjoyed the snail mail. It's a treat to be part of this community. I love all the small and big ways we hug each other!

  4. I want all those things you listed in your poem, too. But it seems you've have to wait a little longer! The last "I want spring!" feels heart-felt and powerful.

  6. Oh, I LOVE that hippo!
We finally got into the 80's for the first time since 2022, and ...well, it was all of three days, and the rain is returning, but it's not snow at least! Hang in there!

  8. Your poem put such a smile on my face! All your details say spring to me, as do the tulips.

  9. Linda, finally you have Spring and tulips! Your poem speaks volumes, especially the line, "More color than seed catalogs show me." My herb garden is thriving and I can't wait for my peony to bloom in my perennial garden.Would you like to add you Spring poem to Springsations Gallery Padlet. It would be a wonderful fit. (PS: Last night I was ready to place this comment and I fell totally asleep early. I guess the rain song was a good night lullaby.

  12. Linda, this is such a strong poem! It can stand up to any spring storm, like the one we just got spitting tiny sleet balls onto our deck. Brava!

  13. Thanks everyone who came by. I have been busy with some of the needs of my car. A person ran a 4-way stop last week and hit the right side, rear end. I'm okay but the car is not, so paperwork, getting a rental, making decisions - time. . . I loved all the poetry shared for this PF, still making my way through the list!

  14. I'm right there with you, Linda! We're a bit spring-delayed in our parts so your poem speaks to my (not so) secret desires. Love the repeating lines. :)

  17. Oh, man, I want spring, too! It's pouring rain, though I did get out this morning in between showers to look for birds. Did that snow come as a shock?

  18. Oh, what a lovely plea -- I had to read it aloud. It seemed to beg for that!
